Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

HP Photosmart C5180 In Cartriges Empty

Low Ink Cartriges have been replaced. I ran a self diagnostic test, and the printer recognizes that the ink levels are 100%. However, when trying to print in color, a pop up appears telling me that the Ink Cartriges are Empty and to replace the yellow ink. It makes me print in black and white and warns that if I do not replace the ink soon all printing will stop. I called HP and they explained that my warranty had expired and I would need to pay $35.00 for support. I am hoping not to pay this since I just paid for the new ink.

    I fixed it!

I uninstalled the software. Unplugged the printer. Restarted my computer. Installed the software, plugged the printer back in, and it worked!

I just want to install the needed empty ink cartridges on my hpc5180. It said I needed to install a couple cartridges, but now I can't figure out which ones. I looked in the control panel under printers,...

Press the OK and Help buttons at the same time. An extended self test page will print out. On that page will be ink levels.

I am an HP employee. I do not represent HP on this website.

My HP Photosmart C5180 printer keeps coming up with an error message 'Ink System Failure. Does anybody know what is needed to solve the problem.

The "Ink System Failure" error is causes by air in the ink feed tubes. We have a step by step guide purging the air from the feed tubes posted on our web site. Go to our site at:, click on the printer repair link and then the HP link. Follow the steps and you should be back printing in no time at all.

I hope this helps, If so please rate our solution.

One of the ink cartriges was changed and the printer has not recognized that it is changed so it will not print.

Unplug the printer, plug it back in.
Change the cartridge again if that doesn't work.
Restart the computer a couple times.

None of those work, then i suggest you take a baseball bat to it. Have fun.

I have installed a replacement ink cartridge and the printer is not recognizing it. Same problem, replacing ink cartridge but not recognized.

Oftentimes you must do a self cleaning plus realignment with newly installed ink cartridges. Try to locate the manual on performing these tests and it should get you started. Also, look to see if your new package came with a self cleaning kit to clean the heads on the cartridge, but be careful not to damage the parts -which are sensitive. Hope this helps

HP Photosmart D7360

HP support decided it could not be repaired on line, agreed to replace it but found it was a few days out of it is dead in the water. Probably not cost effective to repair it.

How do I reset the ink levels?

We have an issue of missing or replace yellow cartridge. Please feel free to contact the HP support for replacement of the printer, if the printer is in warranty status. HP would replace the printer.
