Microphone Line Jack Trouble

I sometimes have trouble when I use my microphones in some of the microphone line jacks. The music will fade in and out when the microphone is in use. I tried cleaning them, but had no success.

It sounds like theres a switch on your mixer to lower the music when the mics switched on, called talkover.when you switch the mic off the music will return to normal levels. find the switch on the mixer and set it to 'on' not talk

My head phone works very good but the microphone doesn't work

When you say headphones do you mean the music headphones, like speakers, because they go in the headphone jack in the computer while microphones go in the microphone jack. The microphone is normally a pink color and the headphone jack is normally green. If you already knew this try wiggling the microphone to see if there is a brake in the wire, if that dose not make it fissile in and out then its something wrong with the microphone its self and should be replaced

To connect a music player or other audio device to your laptop
If your laptop has a line-in jack, follow the instructions above for connecting a music player to a desktop computer. But to connect a music player or other audio device to most laptops, you'll have to plug it into a microphone jack. To do so, follow these steps:

Click to open Sound.

Click the Recording tab, click Microphone, and then click Properties.

Click the Listen tab, click the Listen to this device check box, and then click Apply.

Click the Levels tab and make sure the Mute button looks like this . If the button looks like this , click it to turn on sound for this connection, and then click Apply.

Play some music or other sounds on your device to test the volume coming through your computer speakers. Select the slider under Microphone, drag it right or left to increase or decrease the volume of your audio device, and then click OK. You might also want to adjust the volume on your device.

Note
If you hear noise coming out of your speakers, try reducing the volume on both the music player and in the Levels tab. The microphone jack is designed to receive sound from a microphone, which is different than sound coming from a music player

I have TX-SR503 onkyo receiver. I want to connect a microphone to it so that I can do a karaoke. The unit does not have a socket for microphone. It has a socket for phones. This socket does not appear...

The reason that jack doesn't work for a microphone is because it's a headphone jack. It's meant to send a signal out to headphones, and it doesn't work as an input. If the receiver doesn't have a microphone input jack (and it would be clearly labeled as such), you'll need to connect your mike through the auxiliary input. You may be able to connect with nothing more than an adapter to switch from the plug on the end of the mike cable to the RCA jacks on your receiver. The output level on some mikes may be high enough to drive the auxiliary input as-is. More likely, though, the mike will need a little boost to make it work with the receiver. The receiver needs a "line-level" input, which is higher than the output of most good-quality mikes. To get the mike up to line level you'll need a microphone preamp. There are many types from many sources, at a wide range of prices. Here's one I have used as an example.

You might also want to look for a small mixer like this. The mixer would let you combine your mike and music source into a single line-level output you could run to the receiver, and use the receiver just for the amplifier function.

Where is the line in jack for my Gateway MC7321u Notebook? Is it one of the headphone jacks?

Some computers have a special jack labeled line in. If your computer does not have a line in jack, you can use the microphone jack. You can then adjust the volume of the device in control panel under sound options. The headphone jack is only for output. I have seen some computers where you plug in a cable to the microphone jack and you will be asked what kind of device it is.

How do you use an external microphone with the imac G5, and what type of microphone isd needed?

The iMac G5 does not have a microphone in jack, only a line in jack. The signal levels are generally not compatible.
You can buy a USB-based microphone (or headset), or you can buy a preamp unit such as this iMic.

My microphone only records on one side. how to i do fi it so both lines records instead of just rhe top one?

Your microphone could be a mono or single channel pickup. Look at the microphone plug and count the isolators between the metal contacts, if you count one isolator and two contacts you have a mono microphone, or if you have two insulators and three contacts you have a stereo microphone. If your computer only has a mono microphone input you may have to use your line in on your computer. If your volume is weak and you get noise on your channel you may be required to use a microphone pre amp and plug the output into the line in jack. Last make sure your computer speaker mixer is set correctly for stereo.

Where does the Microphone plug in to the Dell Vostro200

Depending on the chassis-style of your Vostro 200 (Slim-line or Tower), you may have one or more options for installing a microphone.
See below for instructions:
A. Slim-Line Model
There are two locations on this model (by default).
Front: You have the power button, then 2 x USB ports, 1 x Headphone jack-out, and 1 x Microphone jack-in.
Rear: There is a block of six audio connectors, looking only at the bottom 3 (red, green & blue).
Red = Microphone jack-in Green = Speaker/Audio jack-out Blue = Audio jack-in

B. Tower Model
There is one location on this model (by default):
Rear: There is a block of six audio connectors, looking only at the bottom 3 (red, green & blue).
Red = Microphone jack-in Green = Speaker/Audio jack-out Blue = Audio jack-in

Headphones w/ built-in microphone. Can both work with one jack?

the simple answer is No. The long answer is your laptop/computers headphone output and mic input are completely separate on the sound card. Meaning there are no tie to the audio in on the heaphone lines, and vise versa on the mic/line in. Sorry to disappoint.
