All you have to do is reset the cmos, find the jumper and clear it, if you cant find the jumper then remove the motherboard battery for 10 mins (make sure the there is no power cord attached) that should reset the cmos, it also could be an old pc in which the bios doesn't support 64bit addressing, this means it will only recognise a hard drive of up to 40 gig, you could try a bois flash but i don't recomend it as you can kill the computer if something goes wrong

Hi,

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.

Hello, Trace.

Here's some help regarding fixing this error. From HP Support:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=89876&docname=c00188632

If you are still experiencing a problem, your created boot CD is probably faulty.

If it still is not working, depending on your hardware manufacturer, you may be able to access/run Factory Restore. Boot your system and press F10, F11, Alt+F10, or Ctrl+F11 to access Factory Restore. Please note that Factory Restore restores to the original settings and will wipe out anything that you have installed or saved on your PC.

Hope this helps.

Only strts up with the power cord connected, but takes me to a window that makes me pick safe mode, go to the prior set up, o normal estart up tried all but gets me back to that window

It sounds like your battery has died on you. If you start it up and when you can see anything pull the power cord out. if it just dies on you then that is your problem. A replacement battery is $70-$150 depending on where you get it from. It pays to shop around online and even around town.

The rest of your errors should just be caused by windows not shutting down properlly. When you get your battery fixed it should go back into safe mode once more and then reboot properlly into normal windows.
It is possible that windows has become corrupted but not shutting down which means it would need to be reinstalled.

What are the administrator's login and passwords

This question is kind of a landmine. What you're asking is 'How do I hack a windows password?' on a donated workstation.

The appropriate way to handle a donated computer, whatever the source, is to reinstall the operating system. Check ebay, or a local 2nd hand computer store for cheap licenses of windows XP. Or, if you're feeling a little adventurous, you can install a free linux based operating system like Ubuntu (ubuntu.com). It's perfect if all you're looking for is something to cruise the internet, email and play an occassional game of solitaire. Google docs or open office are both free, and can take of most MS Office needs.

If you're dead set on hacking this password, there are dozens of people willing to tell you how to do it, and they're only a google search away ;-).

Computer restarts on shutdown

If your computer constantly restarts while you are using it, or if you are trying to shut down the computer after it has stopped unexpectedly, click to clear the Automatically restart check box. If you clear this check box, you receive an error message when the computer stops responding. This error message may describe the cause of the problem. You can also review the system log in Event Viewer to view the critical stop error that occurs when the computer restarts.

  1. Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
  2. Under System Failure, view the Automatically restart check box. If the Automatically restart check box is selected, Windows automatically restarts if the computer stops unexpectedly.
Thanks & Regards
Nandu :)
