Question about Zoom (5590-00-03) Wireless Router (G66115)

Zoom aDSL modem/wireless router seen but not connecting

I bought the Zoom aDSL X6 modem/wireless router last winter and used it successfully for several months to connect via Ethernet cable to my desktop box and via wireless to my laptop. But suddenly last September, I found myself unable to make a connection to my wireless network.

My laptop WILL connect to other wireless networks in the neighborhood. And I've disconnected the Ethernet cable from my desktop box, installed a wireless card, and tried to make a wireless connection from that machine, too -- but without success.

The Ethernet-cable connection works fine, connected to either computer. I'm guessing, therefore, that the problem lies someplace in the wireless portion of the Zoom X6. Any ideas what I might do to fix it, or is it likely just broke and needs replacement?

Thanks, eecom. I have tried the router (and the laptop) in different locations. I've also tried a few different channels -- and I looked at the channels on which all the nieghborhood wireless networks were broadcasting, but found none that were on the same channel I was on. I've also tried using WPA2 security, WEP security, and no security at all. In all cases, my Network Manager tells me that my network is present, with a strong signal, but it won't make the connection.

Here are a couple of ideas to look at first, assuming you haven't tried them already:

1) Does moving the router help? Sometimes a new DECT phone or a microwave, or even a piece of equipment at a neighbour's house, can interfere with the signal.

2) Does changing the channel on your router help at all? If there are many other networks using the same channel, this might block your own signal.
3) If this does not make any difference, it might be worth checking your security settings.

OK, I see. Many thanks for your kind feedback, and I'm really sorry not to have helped. You are an expert, and need a more advanced solution than I can offer .:)

My next idea is to try re-posting your question.....simply because 'solved' problems seem to disappear, even if the 'solution' is no use (like mine!)

Best of luck and thanks again.

Low signel strength

Common with single antenna routers and adsl/router boxes, i use a zoom x6 adsl with wireless and i was having similar problems , it also has a single antenna so i disabled its wireless feature and got a linksys rangebooster router dedicated to my wireless needs, has good range and its durable, Im basically suggesting that you get another wireless router with dual antennae and use that for your wireless needs, hook that up to your DLINK modem via ethernet cable and disable the dlink's wireless feature...Hope this helps..

My zoom adsl x5 modem/router will not let me go wireless

What is the Operating system on the laptop ?
If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that yopu have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.

You dont need both. Do the following:
Unplug your speedtouch from the phone line at the back of the speedtouch unit. Plug that cable into your Zoom. Then plug one end of an ethernet cable into router and one end into your PC. Type http://10.0.0.2 into a web browser (eg. Firefox or Internet explorer) username/password is admin/zoomadsl go to basic setup and input your ISP username and password (the one given to you by your internet provider) under PPP. Click configure my connection. Save changes and then write to flash (both buttons on bottom of page)

Your ISP probably has some setup requirements from the modem side of the router that will need to be identified.
