On the back of the pc there should be a "LAN" (ethernet) port, if there is not you need to go and buy a PCI ethernet lan card and install it in the pc

click start control panel, administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll to network adapters should see a yellow question mark? right click install drivers
the driver might be on the disc supplied by your ISP internet service provider
or the motherboard disc
hope this helps or you could download

I have a HP pavilion m8020n with Vista OS. I have internet for a while now and suddenly internet just went out. i talked to my internet carrier and we troubleshoot the connections. they said it might be...

2008 PC, shows it has modem too, a dial up. so 3 ways internet.
\there are 2 ways on to the internet (Ethernet and wifi)
aka, wired and wireless, respectively.
sure wifi router works, too, and is more difficult to setup. (im not going there)
try a new cable
try another router port yet, try cycling power only to the router?

sounds like your vista drivers are messed up ,
if another PC works , with ETHERNET cable to router there.then the router is working, test 1, passes.

that means this PC is failing
the PC has a control panel and device manager
see that and the network part? (not wifi , the wired network chip)]

vista 32b or vista 64bit?

your PC came with intel old

  • Interface: Integrated into motherboard
  • Technology: Intel 82562V
  • Data transfer speeds: up to 10/100Mb/s
  • Transmission standards:10-Base-T Ethernet
the driver is?
Intel 82562V
to make that chip work,
intel has it. 6 th down this list, Vista
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/76951/Intel-82562-Fast-Ethernet-Controller

load this driver. fixed. (from a working PC on the net)
then move it to dead pc and load it.

you are plugged in to X here. right.
or is there a card plugged in on the right, with RJ45 ethernet jack.
yes, you sure can add a new Ethernet card if the X jack blows out.

p5lple-fvyief5l4kybalhvncmspljg-3-0.jpg my DM ethernet port, im tying through it now...

In the http://192.168.1.1/ dont display the information

1. Unplug the power cable from your high-speed internet modem.
2. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable (included) to the number 1 port on the router.
3. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on your computer.
4. Connect an Ethernet cable from your high-speed Internet modem into the Internet port on the router.
5. Plug the power back into your high-speed internet modem. Plug the power adapter into the router and wait 30 seconds before plugging it into a power outlet.
6. Wait 30 seconds for the router to fully connect and open an Internet browser window (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari). Type http://vizio.home or http://192.168.1.1 in the browser window and press Enter. The Quick Start App will automatically start.

When trying to install AT&T internet modem on my HP a1210n PC, ethernet did not work when cord plugged into ethernet port on back of harddrive. There aare 2 other ports that have plugs already in them...

see photo 2 here that is the LAN ethernet port
good luck gitting XP working with MS now has the PnP servers shut down. the port must show up first in the device manager.
does it?
Im sure you meant rear of PC case and not a hard drive.
the att tech has no idea at all what is on you desk.
but some PCs super old do have a card,.
yours is old , a1210n
lets look now, as He did not, ok it has one on board.
but is, 10x slower that modern PC, so guess what many folk
wise pop in a new 1gigalan card in the old slots there.
but is limited by the speed of the those old old slow slots.
what we to is first look, and see if there are to jacks there.
1 left below and 1 right not seen below, we do that first.
then use device manager and use the faster one. see?

Solution for ''My hp pavilion notebook will not connect to the internet using a high speed cable modem''

Can you clarify?

Are you trying to connect wirelessly? or directly with an ethernet cable?

For either case, visit the hp support site:
http://welcome.hp.com/country/ca/en/welcome.html#Support
and then select your model (located in bottom of laptop), then download the wireless LAN broadcom (for wireless) and nvidia ethernet cable driver (or something similar to this.)

Hope this helps, and please rate!

Toshiba Cable Modem PCX1100u

OK. First of all you do not need a special or seperate driver for the Ethernet port. Its factory loaded with your OS.

All you need to do is plug the Ethernet cable into the LAN port on your HP Desktop and then into the LAN port (not the WAN port) of your cable modem.

The second thing is if its only a cable modem, then I suggest you proceed with caution as there is NO built-in firewall on a cable modem. Yes you will get on the net, but you are likely to be attacked with virus the moment you connect. I suggest you check very carefully whether the cable modem (if that's what it is) does/does not have a firewall as you would be very unwise connecting up like that.

Next, forget USB connection to the router/cable modem. That technolgy we've moved on from.. Your Vista shodul be 'plug n play' adn should configure the router for you. obviously that bit isn't so slick on yours.

Let me know how you get on..

Plug me in!

The ethernet cable that goes from the modem goes into the router's port labeled "internet." The other ethernet cable going from the computer goes to the routers ethernet cable port labeled "port 1."
