Question about Panasonic PT-53WX53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
My wife woke me up this morning to tell me that while they were watching TV, the color alignment screwed up. I went down to find that the green gun image is warped severely, but mostly on the bottom half of the screen. The top right corner is distorted, the center is pretty well lined up, but on the bottom, the bottom of the green image is warped up around 6 inches, in a curve centered just to the left of center. Since the normal convergence adjustments only apply to the red and blue (you're supposed to align them on green), there's nothing you can do. This happens for all inputs on all video modes, so it isn't likely to just be a settings loss. I can get to the service menu, but I'm supposing this is a hardware problem and there is no use trying to tweak it back into alignment. I know which end of a soldering iron to use, but due to time, it is unlikely that I will attempt the fix myself. Assuming it is the convergence chip set (and does this seem like the case?) how much should a repair shop charge to fix this? If this price is too high, I'll likely buy a new TV. If I do that, then I would likely want to try to fix this one (either as a backup or to sell). Any idea or suggestions?
I had the same issue, except the blue gun went nuts. i replaced the two convergence amp chips (20 bux, shipped) and its back to perfect!
