Only works as extension; loses signal when put as main monitor.

Hi,
I don't know if this has to do with you guys but my monitor works fine as an extension to the laptop I connected it to. But then when I try to make it my main monitor, once I click the box, the monitor goes blank and it says that there is no service. I want to use it as my main monitor and not as an extension.
Please help.
Thank you.

SOURCE: Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

I am not familiar with your particular model, but I do know what the problem is.
The inverter that runs the lights behind the screen is faulty and needs to be repaired. The lights shine from the top and bottom and reflect outwards through the panel so you can see what is on the screen. If you start the computer up, then shine a bright light into the panel you will see an image on the screen, but very feintly.
This can be cheap, it can also be expensive depending on where you go to get it repaired. Call aorund to a few TV shops in your area to get a rough idea on prices.

Hope that helps =)

check the main earth wire near the battery. and one near the rear of the lights. unbolt them and clean the connectors up put some grease on them after. then check again. remember that when the earth wires come off the radio code will be needed to reset the the radio. be safe and take the battery off.

My acer aspire loses its signal randomly then comes back. Other laptops in the house are fine for connection. Any advice in simple terms appreciated as I don't know how to remove acer software for

Have had similar problems with two Gateways that are actually Acer--both two feet away on either side of each other: one or the other will lose connection--so not the units---if move the one not connecting closer (it is 50 feet with 3 walls between it and router) it will then pick up the wireless and work fine--I answer about 300 questions here each week so end up to avoid this in the mud/laundry room where I can depend on the signal and also have a smoke if I want.

May want to as a test move it closer to the router and see if same issue or not.

Monitor says no signal....its always worked before, what could be the problem

No signal means that there is no communication between the computer and the monitor. Check to make sure that the cables that goes into the computer is in snuggly and also that the cables that go into the monitor are in snuggly. If the computer sounds like it is working properly (lights on, you hear fans blowing and hard drive spinning) then your problem is either that the monitor is bad or the VGA (Video) Card inside the computer is bad. If you have access to another monitor try plugging it into the computer, if it works you know that your other monitor is bad. If it does not work your Video card needs to be replaced. One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps

Hi there. My monitor has been working fine up to yesterday. I have all connections plugged in and i turn on the monitor and then the ACER sign comes up and then it says No Signal. and then the blue light...

Your monitor is fine, the problem lies with your computer. Your monitor is not receiving the POST signal from your computer. I suggest you remove your computers graphics card and plug your monitor cable into onboard graphics, then power up and see if the monitor gets a signal. If it does then it means that your graphics card has stopped working. If you still don't get signal then I suggest you take your PC to your local computer shop and get a qualified technition to have a look at it just in case the motherboard is damaged. You can also try out your monitor on another system just to be sure.

Help

Hi Bwill,

I can't figure out exactly the problem but let me figure out On Off mode. Presumming, you have connected the monitor signal cable to PC and your PC works fine and the video card itself works fine also then the problem is on the SMPS (swithcing mode power supply) of the monitor. Try connecting another monitor if needed checking the PC is fine.

When troubleshooting monitor's SMPS let a technical guy guides or somebody has a knowledge in troubleshooting SMPS for safety precautions. There might be a shorted HOT, component problems on primary and secondary side, control circuit, feedback ckt, load problems that immediately shutsdown the SMPS.
