That would be the infamous Red Ring of Death. It means that something inside your xbox has broken (most likely a piece off of the motherboard) needs to be replaced. If you bought your xbox within the past 3 years, it should still be under warranty. If you are unsure, you can call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX (1-800-469-9269) and the can guide you on the way to figuring out whether or not you are under warranty. You can also go to xbox.com and find the support page after putting in your gamertag. They will send you a box and you can ship back to them for free. After a couple of weeks, they will ship a new one (most likely new). For more information, follow the link at the bottom and click on ' Repair Your Console ' on the bottom left. Sorry about your inconvenience.

One red light on my xbox 360

HI the problem is with the console and not the game the chances are it is starting to over heat but do the following first.
1 check the air vents and make sure their free from any dust.
2 leave the console off for at least an hour.
3 make sure your console is not being used whilst its on carpet as this will cause it to over heat really fast
4 make sure its not on top of anything else such as dvd or sky box as this to will cause it to over heat
5 make sure its not in a confined space it needs to get air circulating around it

now if the red light keeps coming on then the chances are pretty soon you will get the dreaded red ring of death all the time and you wont be able to use the xbox at all.

check the warranty sticker on the back if the console is less then 3 years old then you can contact microsoft via their xbox site and get it exchanged for a refurbished one you wont need a receipt as the sticker on the back of the console will have a date on it so check this first

also if the warranty sticker is still in place behind the front cover then they will exchange it for you but if the console has been opened up then they wont even touch it.

if the warranty is out on your console then the only option is for you to get it repaired.
now the problem is when microsoft built these they used cheap metal x clamps and these hold the heat sinks onto the gpu and cpu chip to prevent it from over heating they also used cheap heat sink paste and what then happens is over time the x clamps dont keep pressure on the cpu and gpu chips so this then causes it to lose its cooling power as the hear sink is not pressing on the chips hard enough.
so what you need to get done is get the xclamps taken off and the cpu and gpu chips cleaned to look like new and also the bottom of the heat sinks then new heat sink paste will need putting on top of the cpu and gpu chip then a more secure way of holding the heat sinks onto the cpu and gpu chip is needed, now its not easy to do so if you have never done anything like this before then its best leave it to someone who knows as its a nightmare just getting the case off let alone making sure you put the heat sinks back on level.

now i do this repair for about 25 quid plus parts which usually the total is no less than 30 quid and i only charge the labour if the xbox is fully working after the repair so if your not doing the job yourself you will need to shop around and get the best price you can do.

how ever their is no guarantee the repair will solve the problem as the cpu and gpu chip could have got that hot that it has damaged the solder that holds it onto the circuit board now out of every 10 i do only 2 will not be repairable so the odds are pretty good on getting it fixed, the repair takes a few hours and normally solves the problem then most people never have any more problems.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Red ring on my xbox360

I recently had the E74 system error (1 red light) which started with as ‘black snow’ on the screen. There is an extended 3 year warranty that covers E74 and 3 Red Lights/RROD errors only. It seems to have been put down as a graphics chip and/or over heating problem.

I looked in to fixing it myself but thought might as well let someone else graze their hands getting the case off!

Despite the horror stories of it taking forever MS seemed to have pulled their finger out and made this a very efficient process, I got mine back within a week (I live in the UK and repairs get shipped to Germany).

Here's a quick breakdown of the process:

1. Go to www.xbox.com/support and click on the relevant link relating to your problem.

2. Go through the walkthrough. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AS IT COULD JUST BE A LOOSE CONNECTION. If you've still no joy you can click a link to pick whether you are a US resident or not.

3. Type in serial number of the console (you don't need any receipts, I bought mine off eBay).

4. They send you a shipping label and a link to arrange UPS to come and pick up your console.

5. Bite your nails and rock manically in a corner until your console comes back (you can track the whole process at xbox.com).

I've sent back a first generation 360 and an Elite. Certainly worth considering as they will repair or replace your console!

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941377 E74 Error

If you want to attempt to fix the error yourself (and have no guarantee of sorting it and invalidate your warranty) search YouTube for ‘E74’ fix or ‘xbox towel trick’. This is supposed to overheated the console and re-solder dry solder joints. Only try if your warranty has run out and/or you own a bricked console!

Please rate me if any of this helped J

How should the xbox 360 elite work when you use more then one controler , i see the green intacator light on the first and it shows 1/4 of a cirlcle and when tried to see if you second controler would work...

Make sure that the batteries are good in the remote.
Hold the pairing button on the xbox by the memory card slots. Then hold the little pairing button on the top of the controller until it starts flashing. They should work at this time.

Xbox disc tray not opening. seems like disc is hung up in loader but just won't open.

Right after your push the button to open the try and the light is flashing, gently push the tray to one side or the other. My xbox does that to me and it seems to work in my case. I hope this helps you.
