A power saving feature on this camera allows one to set the camera to shut itself off after a certain amount of time. One of these settings is 30 seconds... You might want to check. "The camera has a built-in power saving feature that turns the camera off after 30 seconds of inactivity (default setting) to conserve battery power. The auto off time setting can be changed in the set up menu. Changing the Auto Off Time Setting: 1. Set the camera to Camera Mode. 2. Press the Menu button to display the main menu. 3. Press until the Setup is highlighted. 4. Press to enter the Setup submenu. 5. In the Setup menu, press to highlight ?Auto Off Time?. 6. Press to enter ?Auto Off Time?. Press to highlight the time you want. 7. Press the OK button to save your selection." http://www.retrevo.com/search/v2/jsp/mytrevo/myTrevo.jsp?page=man

Try rechargable NiMH batteries. They are specifically designed for today's technology, and last much, much longer than traditional batteries. It doesn't matter about the brand -- Energizer, Rayovac, Duracell, generic -- I've found that they all tend to last about the same amount of time in my digital camera. But I only use rechargable ones anymore.

How long do the batteries last when shooting video with Eye-Q 3042 AF camera, using standard batteries?

What you call standard batteries, could be the worst battery there is.
Try using NiMH rechargeable batteries. Even alkaline batteries reform worse. And never use manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries. They not only can't deliver enough power on the right voltage long enough. They easy start leaking and can damage the camera.

keep up to this:
Always be sure the batteries are charged and suited for your device.
Check contacts of the batteries and in the battery compartment of your device. Dirty or oxidised contacts can be cleaned with a dry cloth, or a cotton swap. Never use sharp tools to clean contacts or anything in or on electronic equipment.
Always charge batteries before using it for the first time, or if you have not used it for a long period. 3 months is a very long period.
Always charge sets of batteries (2 or 4) together.
Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutely necessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries may have a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended.
Never use manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries in electronic devices.
These batteries are only to be used in flash lights.
