Adapter for hard disk WD 2906A

I lost the 12V DC adapter of my hard disk WD 2906A (Serial Number WCAL98067238).

Could you recomend me a compatible adapter?

SOURCE: i accidentally plugged a 19V adapter to my 12V WD

You'll have to hope that you have only blown a fuse on your HD Drive. other wise you will have to buy a new one. Have it checked by a tech and see if the HD itself can still be salvaged.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- you can buy a new W.D. device, through the W.D. web-site, at a significant discount.

Computer wont read portable hard drive

Search online for a professional "data recovery" service -- they might be able to repair your disk-drive, just long-enough to copy all your pictures to a new disk-drive.

I have a 1tbexternal hdd drive and it stopped working. i tryed to switch the plug and put it on other computer but nothing.....

We bought some time ago an WD External Harddisk and now the Adapter doesn`t work anymore! What can I do?


Try connecting it to a different computer.

Any external storage device has three major parts:
* USB cable
* disk-drive
* USB-to-disk-drive adapter

Try a different USB cable.

Disconnect the disk-drive from that adapter, and connect the disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, and see if you can read the files, which implies that the adapter is the part that has failed.

If you cannot read from the disk-drive, check its WARRANTY status. W.D. will replace it, if the warranty is still valid.

Otherwise, W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program: find the serial-number of your unit, access their web-site, and purchase another W.D. external storage unit, at a significant discount, by citing the serial-number.

Or, if the adapter is OK, then replace the disk-drive by a new one, and close-up the casing, to create a "revived" external storage device for your use.

I lost the power cord to my external hard drive.


Hi annabel_nyc,

You need to make sure that you get a compatible power adapter for that model. Most of Acomdata external drives use a 12v adapter, but not all. If you plug the wrong voltage into the drive, you do have the possiblity of frying your external. I'd check with your manual or post back your model number so I can look that adapter up.
