The higher the resolution the smaller the icons. 800x600 will show large icons with little screen space. 1024x768 will show smaller icons with more screen space :)

What do you mean when you say "low"?

Increasing the resolution will usually make your screen smaller. Try 1024X768.

You also have manual adjustments on the monitor you can use to decrease the size, vertically and horizontally. Sometimes the menus are kind of tricky though. If you have the manual check it out. If not, comment back with the monitor make and model and I'll try to help you navigate.

Using tv as moniter for games

Try setting the resolution on the desktop when you are on the tv I found that I had this problem before myself and the only way to make it bigger was adjusting my desktop resolution I had also made sure all my settings where correct on my tv as well but I think if you goto the advanced properties on your secoundary or primary if you are using that and adjust the resolution.

are you using VGA or SVIDEO?

They look different most likely because of your screen display. YOu have to adjust teh resolution of the computer ( Limited by hardware) Right click on the desktop then click properties you can adjust teh resolution there.

I hope this has answered your question sufficiently. If you have more questions please post a reply. Thanks.

My desktop is not centered and the fonts are too big. Also my Start button and bottom toolbar have disappeared.

Sounds like your resolution has been set too low.

Firstly, i'm going to assume you have a 17" LCD monitor, and that you are running Windows XP. (what a guess!) =-]

Generally, you'd want to right-click the desktop in a blank area, select properties. This gives you the display properties. Go to the last tab across called "settings", then under "screen resolution", drag the slider up a notch and hit apply. If it looks right, leave it at that. If it's not quite right, go another notch and apply. Keep going until you have it right.

But on your 17" LCD monitor, running the DVI cable to the PC... the computer should already have detected it's maximum resolution. In this case, you can drag the slider all the way to the right and hit apply, knowing that this is the optimal resolution. Also on your Dell LCD, you should have several buttons for adjusting the screen. One of those buttons is usually a "self-adjust" or "auto detect" or "some other obvious thing" for self-adjusting the screen viewable area. It *should* do this automatically when you change resolutions, which your Dell 173FPb should do anyway. =-]

Screen

Right click anywhere on your desktop (not on an icon), *Properties, *Settings, under "Screen Resolutions" slide the marker to the left until you get what you like. This is the simple way to do it.
