Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Water trickeling noise from the compressor area.

I previously had LG model LFC255760 for 1.5 years and had it replaced last week with LFC25770. The old model never had this noise and now the new one has it every time the compressor runs, from the time it turns on to when it turns off. There is a place on one of the lines in the sealed system that has corrosion on it where it looks like it had been leaking and then corroded itself shut. Could this have let air into the system and is causing the noise? Could the system be low on freon?

    Thanks for reply,

The noise I am hearing is only when the compressor is running and cooling the noise stops when the compressor shuts off. If the noise is freon flowing through the lines is there any kind of insulation or sound deading material that can be installed around the lines?

If there is a leak in the system you will notice considerable change in temperature of the frig. In most cases, if this is a leak, you will see a builup of oil coming out of the leak as refrigerant has oil in it. You may be able to hear it or smell the refrigerant. What is commonplace in alot of systems is this noise. When the compressor is running, it is biulder pressure inside of the refrigerant lines. There is a low pressure side and a high pressure side while it is running. When the compressor shuts down after achieving the set temp, The system will start to equal the pressure on both high and low sides of the system. Actually the compressor will not start again untill these pressures are equalized or at least close. The noise you are hearing is most likely the refrigerant in the system while the system is equalizing the pressure on both high and low sides. I have noticed that some systems are more noticable than others. Unless you notice considerable change in temp of your frig, it is probably the equalizing of the system. I am not sure what the corrosion on the line would be without actualy seeing it myself but I have never come across a frig that had a leak and didn`t lose all or enough of the refrigerant without it being noticable inside the frig itself. For it to be a leak the temp in the frig should be or very soon will be noticably warmer.

I don`t believe this noise will effect the way the frig works but If the noise is coming from the line that goes up into the wall of the frig. You will be unable to get to these lines without damaging the frig. The frame is welded and cannot be dismantled. In the past, for that problem, I have had to have customers call the tech line for that specific brand and speak to them. The reason being if they descied that it cannot be fixed then the manufacturer will have to replace the unit if it is still under warranty. My best advice would be contact the appliance center that you bought it at and pose this problem to them. They will need to look at it and then call the tech support line for that brand.Hopefully you can get this replaced if it is too noisy and unrepairable.

My refrigerator is six years old and for the past two months is making a loud buzzing noise. The frequency has increased over time. What could it be? It's an Amana side by side model ASD2626HE. Sounds like...

Saw your post a week late but the sound could be the start relay on compressor is weaking or if the water is turned off to ice maker the water control valve will try to fill ice maker if the ice make switch is left on and has no water. I will send a manual shortly, Sea Breeze

Frigidaire humming freezer not cold enough

For the 25 year old freezer: a replacement compressor of the same BTU rating can be obtained and used as a replacement BUT at 25 years old I DO Not recommend the expense of a compressor replacement.

To the owner of the six year old freezer. The buzzing noise is more than likely the compressor cycling on its overload protector. This is an indication that the compressor has failed. In this case also I do not recommend replacing the compressor. If it was in warranty the manufacturer would bear the cost. Replacement compressor come with a one year warranty.

Mfd2561hes Maytag Refrigerator

This sounds like you have a Maytag Ice2O. You need to find out if that cound is a relay/overoad failure on the compressor or the compressor going out. I can say from experience that some of those have a tecumsie comprossor in them and the do tend to fail. If you hear a loud electrical humming sound coming from the compressor and your getting a warm up then you need to record this sound on some kind of sound recorder and call a Whirlpool warrenty certified tech. out to look at it if it's less than 5 years old from perchase date then Whirlpool will pick up the part and labor bill of a compressor installation also check your owners manual for warrenty details. Hit me up let me know.

Warm to Hot molding that seals the doors

Either the fan motor has gone bad or the coils under the fridge are too dirty. Both will cause a no cool situation and cause this area to become too hot. Part of the coil runs thru the cabinet in this area to prevent sweating. This is a good indication of dirty coils or a bad/weak fan motor. If your fan was noisy I would replace it before it goes out completely. This excessive heat will lead to premature compressor failure.
