Bad device, see if you can see it in the control panel under hardware, if it's not there, the device may be bad, try in diff puter.

I have windows server 2003 professional edition installated.Cannot access seagate external hadrdrive

If you were able to access it before and the drive powers up when you turn it on, the most likely cause is that the USB connector is broken. If your drive came with a Firewire adapter and you have a firewire connector for your computer. Then swap the usb with firewire interface and confirm that the drive is still working. If it works then the USB adapter is broken. The second alternative is to try the eSATA connector if you have an eSata interface on your computer get a cable and check that the drive works. Third way to check is to puchase an eSata adapter the allows you to plug the eSata to the usb port on the computer. Forth is to try and open the usb module and solder the usb connector back on. Fifth is to try tearing open the drive case (difficult but not impossible) and put the drive into a different case (purchase at Best Buy, Staples, online, etc)

USB Drive

A lot of people (me included) seem to have a similar problem with this particular SanDisk model. The problem stems from the design of the drive: the slide that retracts and extends the connector (the silver piece that you plug into the computer) is easily damaged. If this happens, the connector won't extend completely and it can't get a solid connection to the USB port; without full contact, the drive won't be recognized by the computer and the device won't get enough power (this is why the LED won't light up, but the drive gets hot). The solution sounds a bit scary, but it's easy enough: GENTLY remove the drive's plastic casing (I pried mine open with a very thin screw driver). Hold the exposed drive by the edges, taking care to minimize contact with the now unprotected chip and hardware inside, and plug it in to a USB port. Mine lit up right away, and I was able to retreive the files and copy them on to a different, and hopefully more reliable drive.

Hope this helps.

It looks like it's dead. If you have a warranty or sales receipt, use it and perhaps look at Consumer Reports before buying a new one. Memsticks like the Cruzer are not engineered to be very durable.

U3 2.0GB USB 2.0 Sandisk Cruzer micro opearation prob

I hate to say it but sounds like the drive is dead.

Typically the LED should go green. If it does not it could be the drive is bad or not talking.

Might have to check the Sandisk site for information on this one. Most times when I have an orange light here, that means "it's dead"
