The objective is to copy/recover the existing movie/video (shows) thatare inside the hard drive of an Atlanta Scientific Explorer 8000Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

This would involve two steps. The electronics part which isnothing more but physically removing the hard drive (HD) from the DVRand the computer part which is transferring the movie/video files fromthe DVR's HD to a temporary holder (a PC's own HD) and eventuallyburning to DVDs.

Electronics:
The cover of the Explorer 8000 must be removed to expose the inside. The inside would look like the image below.

The component inside the yellow circle is the HD. It is normally heldby a couple of screws and electronically attached to the printedcircuit boards by two (2) connectors. The wide flat cable is the IDEdata interface while the yellow/black/black/red is the power. Onceremoved, this HD can then be treated as a very large flash/thumb drivewith the necessary adapter.

Computer:
The HD would look something like the image below. It is an 80Gb IDE drive.

The HD would then have to be connected to an IDE to USB adapter with anexternal power supply, something like the image below. If you willavail of the services of a qualified computer tech, then most likely hehas something like this already.

The DVR's HD can now be attached to an operational computer. Here is the trick, the computer must be running Linux.

Deja Vu. I did exactly the same thing with my 1st generation Wave Radio in 1995. Like all electronics not made for scuba work, if you don't open the case and start blasting it with a hairdryer in the first few minutes of getting it wet your main circuit board is toast. When you turn it on does it make a rhythmic electronic death rattle sound? If yes, corrosion has destroyed the circuitry.
I don't know if the Bose of today is the same Bose Culture as when I fried mine but mine was 2 months past warranty. I took it to my local repair shop who told me they'd have to replace the main circuit board. Very discouraging but they told me Bose was very responsive to lovers of the product and if I wrote them a letter they might take pity on me. I wrote a letter extolling my love for the product (It was all true. I'd been looking for something non-jarring to wake up to for months before I bought this thing). No BS. I sent the letter and about a month later they sent me a letter with instructions for returning it to the factory and an RMA number. They replaced the main cicruit board for free and returned it to me. It worked flawlessly until 2009.
It's worth a try, but I mean it, send an Old School snail mail not an email. It makes a difference. Good luck and sorry. It's an expensive piece of equipment.

Hi !!! my name is carlos and just i bought a rca clock radio rp5420 and i dont know how setup the clock if you know how can i do that tell me how please apreciate your help thanks!! sorry for my bad...

You do not have to set the clock time as a built-in automatic time set system is equipped in this clock powered by 3V (2X AA batteries). All you have to do is to plug this clock for power and current time will be shown automatically. However, the batteries can also be exhausted and it is recommended to replace the batteries every 2-3 years.

But if you want Setting the Clock:
1. Slide the switch /WAKE1/WAKE2/ on the top of the unit to clock position.
2. Press REV or FWD to set the clock time. The time decrements or increments will follow by a faster rate when you press and hold the buttons. The ":" between hour and minute time flashes when you are setting the time. AM or PM icon will also beside the time.
3. Slide the switch /WAKE1/WAKE2/on the top of the unit to original position when finished.

Thanks.

Bose not working at all

Unfortunately, Bose will not release their schematics of parts lists, effectively giving them a monopoly on repair of these sets. On their web site, www.bose.com, they offer to repair most Wave sets for $100 or give $200 credit towards the purchase of a new Wave. Before you spend the big bucks though, you might want to check out the new HD radios. Better sound and MUCH lower prices than the Bose.

Nothing works on it.

Hi,

I have a couple questions/comments:

You said the unit was "unresponsive" so I am assuming that none of the control buttons work in addition to the display showing faulty data.

If the buttons worked, meaning you could change radio stations but the display was not working, then this would tell me that your display had failed.

However, if the buttons do not work, then this tells me that the microprocessor has failed because its not accepting any commands from the buttons. The microprocessor also sends information to the display. So, that fact that you are having two problems; buttons won't work & bad data on tha display indicate a microprocessor problem.

There is a possibilty that the problem could be cause by a problem in the power supply section. Perhaps one of the voltages is missing. I always start at the power supply and if ok, go from there.

The question you need to consider is if its worth having it repaired rather than going out and purchasing a new unit.

Yes, it can be repaired but you will need to take it to a service center and you will need to consider the expense in having it fixed.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good luck!

- Jim
