Worked great for 10 years, then suddenly when I try to turn on my GE 27GT616 27" TV it does this:
On-Off-On-Off-On-Off-On-Off-On-Off REALLY FAST and then never does power up...
Also, on a side note, are there different versions of this set with the same model number? I keep reading other posts about composite connections on the back and/or built-in VCRs. Mine has ONE coax input and that's it. No other inputs. I've always had to use an RF converter to connect it to DVD players, etc.. Label says it was manufactured in July of 1998.

Re: On-Off-On-Off-On-Off-On-Off-On-Off REALLY FAST
Needs to have the regulator circuit rebuilt... I think for that unit it's p/n 231523 but ask the dustributor to check that before ordering, every suffix version has different kit numbers. Just give the order desk the FULL model number of your Tv..

I Have this very same TV and have had it for over 10 years, it still works great. The life of a TV can vary with every different use. Depending on how long the set is turned on and how many times you have turned it on and off. The off and on cycle is what greatly deminishes a TV's life span. If you start noticing the picture or color quality starting to fade it will be a hint that it may soon need replaced. ther eis the sudden failure of the power supply and then it will more than likely be done for. I would guess that you should get at least 12 years of use of this set, but as I said the life of these vary a great deal.
U check the power source?Take the tv aparts, check or replaced the power fuse, might get lucky. Not,than sorry, this tv can't be repair, without replacing electronic's componnents parts.Hire the same shop to do the repair.Ur tv power ICS inverter are dead.
Your TV is being overheated by the location it is placed. try moving it in an airy area and see if the problem still occurs. The turning on and off is a response to overheating sensors in the TV housing and if not rectified it could malfunction and may cause burnout, a possible risk of fire.
just an idea the t.v. is 10 years old ok. Now look at the back can you see inside if so chances are there is a build up of dust which makes a great t.v. wrecker. So vacuum the dust out and see if that helps.
Hello. I believe from your description that the vertical circuit has failed. either the IC or a capacitor. Sorry, but being only a 13" set I don`t recommend you repair it. unless you have a friend that would do it for you for the cost of the parts only.
Oh come on man the sets tired!!!LOL no really you got plenty of use out of this bugger. Your problem sounds like something opened in the power supply and since the sets all solid state theres no user serviceable parts inside them. If you really wanted to put cash into a 10 year old set for an estimate/? i would not . But if you like the set go for it. Good luck
