Try using the VLC Player. It comes with drivers and codec. I've seen it solve problems with sound and audio.
Try using VLC as your player. Go to www.google.com andin the search box type "download vlc" (without the quotes). Look for the Video Lan download from site www.videolan.org/vlc Downloadand install it. It downloads and installs in 3 minutes or so. It'sa very fast player, smooth and it can play just about any type of dvd formatsand media. It's totally FREE. If VLC Player works try your media player again. It might be necessary to reinstall Windows Media Player if it still gives you the error message.

Yes there is something wrong! The sound card driver is corrupted!
YOu need to check on device manager again. Look for your drivers there.
If you do not see the EXACT NAME of your sound card, then the driver that is installed is a DEFAULT driver made by the os.
Ex: This is a sound card driver name listed in Device manager:
IDT HIGH DEFINISION AUDIO
This is an example of a default sound card driver that will not work well on certain sounds or will not work at all:
LEGACY SOUND DEVICE
Even thought you many not see a yellow question mark (which you should be checking for too just in case)on any of the listings for your hardware, chances are you are still using a default sound card driver due to a corruption to its original sound card driver.
So recheck your device manager and find out the exact name of your original sound card. If there is no match to your exact name of your sound card, then you need to REINSTALL your sound card driver again and you will immediatly see your sound card working again :)
If this does not work, you may have to change your sound card.
Hi Sir, The problem is with the codec that is require to play
sound. You can resolve this by playing your DVD in another player like
VLC media player or you will have to install the latest codec pack
which supports major Audio and Video formats.
Following are the links to download both the VLC media player and K-Lite mega codec pack- Download any one of them and install on your system.I am pretty sure this will resolve your problem.
I had to install WindowsXP from scratch, due to a
virus infection. After complete installation of the WindowsXP, I
installed all the drivers from the disc that was included with the
motherboard. Yet for some reason, when I open windows media player,
there is no sound device. What seems to be the problem?
to ensure that sound driver is installed or not right click on "my computer" go to "properties" then click on "hardware" tab then click on "device manager" then chack any yellow question mark(?) or exclamation (!) mark is their or not if (?) marks show with ur audio device, mean audio driver not installed. installed it from mother board cd (which is provided by ur motherboard vander).
