Question about Sony DAV-FR8 System
Hello. I have a Sony DAV-FR8 and it was working just fine. I went to put a DVD into it last night and the DVD part won't do anything. When you press function it will go to DVD, but DVD only shows on the front panel for a few seconds. You can't put a DVD into it or anything. You can't even get to any of the settings. You can use the SAT and the Stereo, but that is it. You can't even turn it off. It continuously blinks STANDBY. Any suggestions? I tried unplugging it and that did not work. I made sure that all of the speakers are plugged in right. Thanks, Kim

I was having a similar problem and determined that there was a short in the speaker leads for the center channel speaker. The leads to the speaker were touching, after being moved, slightly while housecleaning. Once short was eliminated, unit powered on and worked with no problem.

I had the same problem, red blinking light after owning for several years. I decided to replace the capacitor at C914 to see if it would work, and it did. Apparently that capacitor is prone to failure. Since this seems to be a common problem, I created a web page detailing the repair. Hope it is helpful. Repair cost $1.39 + tax.

I don't think this has an Optical but a Coaxial connection. You might try a coaxial audio cable not optical.

SOURCE: sony dav-c990 not functioning
A lot of "aged" problems relate to the power supply with this type of unit. If you are a handy chap and know what capacitors are you will find that finding and replacing the "dry" caps in the power supply will fix most problems including streaky pix and crackly audio.
