Question about Canon Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

I am setting up a new Canon Pixma MP980. I lifted the scanner unit until it locked open to remove red packing tape and to have a look inside. Now I find I can't close the cover. How do I release the lock to the opening mechanism?

Thanks but as per the instructions I had moved the switch to unlock (which I found located under the document cover before I opened the scanner unit. Now that the scanner unit is open it remains in the locked open position regardless of the position of the switch.

I'm wondering if I caused a problem by opening the scanner unit before I plugged the unit in and turned on the power but I'd be very surprised if this was the reason.

Over on the left there is a small two-position slide switch with pictures of an open lock and a closed one. Slide the switch to the rear (Open lock) and close the cover.

Where is the "scanner lock switch" located on a Canon Pixma MP980 printer? I cannot seem to locate the switch "under the hood" so I need assistance.

The scanner lock on the MP980 is on left hand side of the scanner unit. It's closer to the hinge of the document cover and almost centered between the scanner glass and the edge of the printer. If you lifted the entire scanner unit, you won't see the switch. You should be able to push the switch towards the open lock symbol with your finger or thumb. The Getting Started guide has a pretty good picture of where the switch is in Step One. The guide is available on the product page, http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp980#BrochuresAndManuals , in the Brochures & Manuals section. The current link to the Getting Started Guide is http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/2/0300001552/01/MP980_GS_EN-US_V3.pdf . After moving the switch, turn off the all-in-one. Then unplug the power cord to clear the error message from the printer's memory. After a few minutes, plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

If the error persists and the scanner is unlocked, the scanner mechanism may be damaged. If that's the case, your MP980 needs service. If the unit is under warranty, contact Canon. (If it isn't under warranty, you'll need to decide if the unit is worth the shipping and handling fees and the minimum $50 or so charge just to determine the problem at a service center. (That fee will be applied to the cost of fixing the printer, if you decide to have the technician continue to work on the unit.)

I hope this helps.

I have a canon pixma mp250 printer and i can't find the manual to explain how to replace the black ink cartridge.

To change the ink, make sure that the printer is on (green light is lit). Then lift up the entire scanner unit and latch the support on the right. Wait for the cartridge carrier to move into the ink cartridge replacement position. Open the cartridge cover on the right hand side by pinching the front and the tab on the top together; then lift it upwards. The cover will rotate towards the back of the printer. Pull the empty cartridge back out of the slot. Open your new cartridge and peel off the protective tape. (Do not touch the electrical contacts or the nozzles.) Place the new cartridge in the slot (slide it forward). Then rotate the cartridge cover back down until it clicks. If you do not need to change the color cartridge, lift up on the scanner unit until the support unlocks. Then carefully lower the entire scanner unit to close it (don't pinch your fingers or drop the scanner unit). If the orange Alarm light comes on, check that the cartridges are correctly installed and the cover is in place. Wait until the printer recharges ink system before sending a print job or copying a page.

Canon has the documentation for the MP250 on their site: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/photo_all_in_one_inkjet_printers/pixma_mp250#BrochuresAndManuals (for the manuals) .

I hope this helps.

How do i replace the ink cartridge(s)?

For most inkjets, first make sure that the printer is powered and turned on. Then lift up the entire scanner unit until it locks in place (lift it at the center of the scanner unit). Wait for the ink carrier to come to a stop where you can reach it. The cartridges are inside a protective cover that you need to lift up. Squeeze the tabs together on each cover then lift. (One is at the very front of the cartridge carrier; the other is a little bit farther towards the center of the printer.) Note: do one ink cartridge at a time. Pull the used cartridge out towards you and up. Open and remove the protective film from your new cartridge. Avoid touching the electrical contacts or ink nozzles. Slide the new cartridge forward and down into the slot. Close the cover by pushing it down until it clicks. Then do the other cartridge if needed. Black goes in the right hand slot. Make sure that the covers are properly closed.
For pictures, see: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp240?CMD=MIXED_SEARCH&mName=PIXMA+MP240&mType=PIXMA+MP&pageKeyCode=ekbresults&searchString=change+ink+cartridge&BASIC_SEARCH_CURRENT_TOPIC_ID=1063&BASIC_SEARCH_CURRENT_TOPIC_TYPE=0&RESULTS=RELEVANCE&RELEVANCE_START=1&RELEVANCE_COUNT=10&CONFIGURATION=1011&PARTITION_ID=1&TIMEZONE_OFFSET=null&USERTYPE=1&isSecure=false

Lift up the scanner unit and then lower it down to close. Wait for the printer to clean the new nozzles and remove any air from the ink system.

If you have problems with the above link, start at http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp240#ServiceAndSupport and search for replace ink cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Changing ink instructions canon MP240

With the printer on, open the paper output tray. Then lift up the scanner unit (with the document cover closed). Make sure the support is holding the scanner unit. Then wait until the cartridges move to the replacement area. Pinch the tabs together to open the cartridge locking cover (it just rotates up). Then remove the cartridge by pulling it towards you. Prepare the new cartridge - remove it from the box and remove the orange tape. Do not touch the electrical contacts or the print nozzles.

Slide the new cartridge into the cartridge slot (color on the left). Then close the locking cover - it should click into place. Make sure the cover is correctly closed. Lift the scanner unit to disengage the support and lower the scanner to close it. Wait for the printer to clean the new print heads before sending a new job to the printer. (It will finish printing a job that was in progress when the ink ran out.)

Note: if the scanner unit is open for too long, the cartridges will move to their home position. Close the scanner unit and reopen it.

You can find pictures of the procedure at Canon's support site: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp240#ServiceAndSupport . Searach for replace ink cartridge. Altternatively, go to the Brochures and Manuals page and see the manual.

I hope this helps.
