Question about Microsoft Entourage For Mac for Mac

Entourage quits when trying to receive mail

I have been using entourage for 4 years with no problems. Recently my mouse packed up and I replaced with a new mighty mouse. I accessed my mail via entourage once, since then I can only send mail.( whether these two things are related I don't know) Each time I try and receive mail  the program quits. I tried resetting and reloading to no avail. I am running OSX 4.11 I live in the far south of Italy and do not have broadband only dial up, so downloading large files can be a problem.
Any ideas?

It's not the mighty mouse.

Known issue : A malformed email kills Entourage - log-in to your email's web portal (contact your email provider). Notice it crashes "if" you try to receive mail but not on sending.

Its probably best that you remove the program and then download or get the newest version of the program on CD

You need to check the SMTP server settings on Entourage.

Sorry, little inprecision, you need to check entorage settings, and in server settings check the POP server settings, that is the server that receives mail.

It must be set correctly to the one needed for the mail that you are using.

For example if you have a tiscali mail it will be pop@tiscali.it or mail@tiscali.it.

    the pop server receives mail

    the smt pserver sends

If the pop server is wrong you do not receive email, if smtp is correct you can still send.

You need to go to account settings, and verify with youe email service provider that the pop server is correct. Do not change the smtp, if you can send emails that is fine.

    See an example:

I try to be more clear.

Open the the edit account menu:

In the Edit account locate pop3 server, you need to ensure that the value in the fields:

    • Account ID

    • POP server

    • Password
    Are correct.

If your email is for example my.mailname@yourprovider.com, in this example:

    • Account ID - Enter your e-mail address, or the first part of it : my.mailname@yourprovider.com or my.mailname only

    • POP server - Your incoming server is mail.yourprovider.com or pop.yourprovider.com

    • Password - Enter the password for your e-mail account.
If this details do not work you need to call the mail provider to find out the right server and ID/password.

Hey, i have this mouse for over 2 years now and recently I had a little accident. My laptop would have hit the ground if it wasn't for the snap-in receiver who receive the damage. the thing is that it...

Your best bet would be to replace the snap-in receiver. I'm assuming that you're referring to the USB-type plug-in receiver used on most wireless mice.

If the receiver is unavailable from Microsoft or is price-prohibitive, I would just replace the mouse and receiver.

Perhaps a situation like this is best thought of as counting your loss is much less by replacing the mouse than having to have extensive repairs to your laptop.

Best of luck to you,

Mouse quit working..replaced batteries...reloaded software...pressed button on USB device. Only works intermittenly. It's about 2 years old. Is that the life expectancy?

Interference with other devices. Place the receiver closer to the mouse, and make sure the batterie you replace are good.
Just because they came out of a pack does not guarantee they are fresh.

Entourage Error 3259

This may be due to the means of authentication being used -- by the STMP server you are sending to and/or the authentication options selected in your Entourage setup. Mail servers commonly establish restrictions based on authentication to restrict who can send mail through them as a means of preventing spam.

Cable companies for example, and possibly your campus network, often restrict the sending of Mail to those computers that have a local connection to their network based on the IP address they are using -- i.e. where you plugged in or which wireless adapter you are connected to. Alternatively, many others require your mail client to present your user name and password to authenticate... or possibly to authenticate only in those cases when you are not connected locally.

So... to get an iron clad answer, you need to find out from the Mail server administrators what type of authentication is required. This information is often listed on "help" web pages describing how to set up your mail client... or call them if you can. Alternatively, check your Entourage setup to see how it is contacting the server for outgoing mail. Try changing the authentication method to use Password authentication if it is not already. Ultimately, the mail administrator for your Mail server is likely your best help resource.

Hope this helps.

Unable to receive mail in Entourage from POP server.

Not really sure what is wrong but would suggest that you check your account setup under tools/Accounts and see if the setting for advanced settings for receive is set to "This POP service requires a secure connection" is checked or not. It depends on what your ISP requires

Hi,
Send & Recieve Basics:

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.
Check your Keychain for corruption.
