red light blinks as long as the unit has power, by the way I am a tech. but I don't have much experience with this set and I thought that you have access to a service manual so I can read some voltages coming out of the power pcb. Hope you can help me, George

HI This unit has not only problems with the convergence amps but the digital convergence board as well - this is one I would clearly recommend you take in for servicing as opposed to trying the repair yourself... It could be either that's faulty and some elaborate testing with a scope will confirm the failure.
Also, let the tech know that the correct part number for that digital convergence board is: 23786715 (Pd0078d) and to refer to Toshiba's technical bulletins Tv200301 and Tv200301 for further info. This will save them some grief if it does turn out to be the dc board because the part number in the service manual is not correct.

Hi,

Initially, the front panel green light indicates that there is power coming into the system; standby light or the red light flashing indicating that the unit has switched to protection mode., the unit in its self diagnosis has detected a fault. In order not to extend the damage, the unit prevents itself from turning on. Eventually the unit has to be opened up for a look and see. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional or claim warranty repair.

Incidentally, in the hope that this is a simple glitch, perhaps you can try unplugging from the mains and removing all connectors. After an extended period, reconnect and verify connections and try again.

Additionally, was there anything out of the ordinary prior to the incident such as power failure/interruptions, thunderstorm, TV used for an extended period of time, the remotes has been inadvertently played with, or anything noteworthy.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how many times the flash/blinks, back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Welcome to the site George and appreciate the quick reply.

Initially, to my knowledge, the color wheel would only turn if and when the set has powered up correctly. Often, the problem with them would be noisy operation and/or mechanically stuck hence they will not turn.

Unfortunately but for the moment, what readily comes to mind would be this service manual for a 52HM85. Here is to hoping it would be nearly identical or at the very least give you the general idea. http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/2...

Would try to source some more. Cheers.

    Hi again,

Any development(s) so far? Were you able to cross reference the service manual for a 52HM85?

Toshiba 46HM95-Picture Blinking Green

More than likely, as with almost EVERY 46HM95, it's your light engine or color wheel (same thing) starting to go out. The piece alone will run between $500 and $750.. Install prices depend on where ya go. And don't let the Toshiba rep lie to ya. That person might not have known the problem, but Toshiba as a whole has heard about this problem and known about it. If you've searched the internet for the same problem, you'll see that almost everyone that has bought this TV gets the same response from Toshiba "Never heard of it" or "it's out of warranty, tough luck" I'm surprised there hasn't been a class action lawsuit yet.
