Question about Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook

Open Question

Can't get a connection to dial up internet.

Was working fine then didn't use it for most of the summer, then it took more and more attempts to connect. Now all I get is a dial tone, but no connection. Seems like modem is no longer dialing the server tele #. I'm stuck. Oh! using windows vista basic. Does it sound like modem problem?
Thank you, any help will be trully appreciated.

I am a school librarian. I have an AverMedia QuickPlay device that I used last year, connecting my computer to a TV. It worked great. This summer, I was given a new computer, and the QuickPlay was...

I am not an expert but a google search could prove useful.

I expect connecting it will be intuitive and all you will need are the drivers (the software).

Connecting your device should produce the message "new hardware found" and it will attempt to install it automatically and when it fails, if it fails, it will give you the option of allowing your computer to search the internet for the drivers.

If you still have your old computer and the same operating system is used on your new computer, you will be able to extract the software from it and you could transfer all your files and settings quite simply.

Set up and Use Internet Connection Sharing

Hi,

To enable Internet Connection Sharing on a network connection

You must be logged on to your computer with an owner account in order to complete this procedure.
Open Network Connections. (Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double–click Network Connections.)

Click the dial–up, local area network, PPPoE, or VPN connection you want to share, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.

On the Advanced tab, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
If you want this connection to dial automatically when another computer on your home or small office network attempts to access external resources, select the Establish a dial–up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box.

If you want other network users to enable or disable the shared Internet connection, select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box.

Under Internet Connection Sharing, in Home networking connection, select any adapter that connects the computer sharing its Internet connection to the other computers on your network. The Home networking connection is only present when two or more network adapters are installed on the computer.

To configure Internet options on your client computers for Internet Connection Sharing

Open Internet Explorer. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.)

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

On the Connections tab, click Never dial a connection, and then click LAN Settings.

In Automatic configuration, clear the Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script check boxes.

In Proxy Server, clear the Use a proxy server check box.

Good luck!

My wifes laptop is trying to use DUN instead of network cable

Open up Internet Options (from the Tools menu in IE or right-clicking the desktop icon and selecting Properties, or through the Control Panel). On the Connections tab, select 'Never dial a connection.' When you want to connect to your ISP you will be required to manually start the dial-up connection.

I am on broadband. I have a dial-up account for when away. Dial-up is set to dial only when network not found - and has been this way for many months without any problem. Broadband working no prob but now...

One thing that could be possible is there is a program running that could be requesting information from the internet and rather than using the broadband it attempts to access with dial-up. One quick fix would be to go to Internet options and under the "Connections" tab uncheck the box that states Dial whenever..... and check the box that states Never dial a connection. I would use this setting when you use your broadband and when you are away traveling you can go back and check the box to Dial whenever.....

Good Luck

Inspiron 1525 my pc keeps dialing internet at random when not asked to do so..... cant seem to find a reason for it ...... i am very new to pcs .....[first time 1 month only].

The reason this is happening is because you have programs on your PC attempting to access the internet. To change this behaviour, open control panel and go into internet options. On the connections tab, select your dial up connection and click the box next to never dial. Click Okay. Now it will only dial up when you tell it to by selecting start, connect to, your internet connection.

Can't connect to 3Com Office connect wireless from Apple Mac Pro

PPPoE connection is set up

1. Control Panel, double-click Network Connections. 2. Click the PPPoE connection under the Broadband group that you want to share, and then click Change settings of this connection under Network Tasks. 3. On the Advanced tab, click to select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box. 4. PPPoE connections behave in a similar way as do dial-up networking (DUN) connections, and you may want the connection to be automatically dialed when another computer on your network attempts to connect to the Internet. To do this, click to select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box. 5. If you want to allow other network users to enable or disable the shared Internet connection, click to select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box. 6. Under Internet Connection Sharing, in Home networking connection, click the LAN (Local Area Network) connection that connects the computer that is sharing its PPPoE Internet connection to the other computers on your network.

No more internet

This error may be caused by the WINDOWS FIREWALL being set to prevent incoming and/or outgoing communications on the dial-up connection.

To test if this is the case:
Go to CONTROL PANEL -> Windows Firewall; turn the firewall OFF and see if the error disappears.

If the error disappears, turn the Windows Firewall back ON, and check the settings in the Exceptions tab, and the Advanced tab -> for the dial-up connection. If you cannot locate the bad entry, you can try the 'Restore Defaults' button in the advanced tab (which may produce other undesirable problems depending upon your configuration and software you've added).
