Question about Kenmore 15516 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Broken belt I, too, have a very old Kenmore sewing machine. I ordered a belt online March 2007, saved the paperwork, but can't seem to get in online to order another one. It was order Number 24823 on March 23, 2007. It was a motor belt for a Model 96, belt #60902 for $12.95. sewingmachine221sale@pop.bizland.com was what they told me to save and use, but the page won't come up. I just want to buy a new belt for my maching. Thanks for your help. Jo Goedert

If you are having problems finding the correct belt, sometimes the stretch belts work great for these situations. You can find many of them on ebay.

Model 2142. Motor runs but why doesn't belt move for regular sewing?

Make sure the bobbin winder has not been activated. When the bobbin winder is activated, the needle bar is deactivated. The belt could also be stretched, damaged, or broken.

If it is a mechanical machine, how long has it been since a thorough cleaning and oiling?

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

How do I refill the thread bobbin on a Kenmore sewing maching,,model 148-19371

You can try a couple of YouTube videos:

Loading thread on the bobbin old Kenmore sewing machine
(do not wind the bobbin as fast as he does as it tends to stretch the thread and also could cause the spool to fly off the machine!)

How can I find accessories for an old machine?

Sewing shops are loaded with this stuff. You can order online too. You'll need the make & model number. Do a little research, I think Kenmores are simply repackaged Singers.

Bobbin shaft does not turn but sounds like it is. What do I do?

Sounds like a broken belt. They are located on the bottom side of the machine, and all can be ordered online, or you may want to take it to a shop

I have an old sewing machine in my attic, i just recently put it to use. but i cant seem to find the reverse stitch button. im only 14, it was my moms sewing machine. but shes no longer with us, so im...

I've got a Kenmore sewing machine and the back stitch is a button/lever on the front of the machine. It has to be held down when you want to back stitch, because when you let it go it stitches forward again. Hopefully that helps, I'm not sure what yours looks like. ( I couldn't find pictures of your model online anywhere.) :)

Kenmore sewing machine mod 1703 motor runs but

By 'The wheel the belt is on' you mean the motor pully? If that is so obviously some oil has some how made way on the pully and the belt. Try to remove the belt and clean both wheels and the belt free of oil. This shd slove the problem.

If it doest then please send a photo of the arrangement showing pully and belt. U didnt mention if the machine is old or new. Did u oil it recently before trouble developed?

Old kenmore sewing machine model # 1237 ( not found in search) - prob. purch.'d in 198o's

Check the handwheel. If it is pulled out, the clutch is not engaged. Try pushing it in! (It would be really nice if the solution is this easy!)
