Toshiba A105 powers on briefly once a month!

I have a Toshiba that suddenly stopped turning on. I researched on the internet and took it to the Computer Geeks briefly and we all thought it must be the mother board. The keyboard did get splashed once.
The computer was not really worth $400 to fix (and that is trying to do it on my own) so I set it aside. My son came along a month later, plugged it in and it came on long enough for him to log on to the internet! I was pretty happy about that since a mother board would be either dead or alive right? So it must not be the mother board?
But then we could never get it to power up again. It sat another month or so and he plugged it in again and sure enough it came on. Not long this time maybe 20 seconds or so. Now it won't power up again.
We have instructions on how to take it apart. Would a connection to the mother board cause this? What should we look for?

The laptop sounds like it is seriously overheating, this is the reason why it keeps on turning off DO NOT TURN IT ON AGAIN!!!!!!!! you need to open the laptop up, you will encounter lots of screw's make a note of where they came from, you will need to use a very small screwdiver to gently prize the case open, look for hidden screws under the battery and under the lid.
When you get to the motherboard you need to check the fan, connect the power and switch on for a splitt second, if the fan does not go round you need to replace that.
also, clean the dust and the build up of fluff from the fan blades and the grills.
If this job is to complicated buy a can of compressed air and blast it through the grill and fan areas

I have lost access to all the USB ports on my Toshiba Satellite P105-S6024. Most recently - 12/26/09 - I was able to use all ports, althought my 16BB Flash Drive - Staples Relay Model also suddenly stopped...

There are a few toys and devices made in China that deadshort the USB terminals. I hope you have not bought and installed one of these. I had 2 in the shop a year ago with some Dora Explorer usb toy that toasted the usb once installed. If you have bought and installed something about the same time as the usb stopped working you will need to call the company that made the device and demand they replace your motherboard.

Toshiba a105 s2194 won't turn on.

Please try to remove the battery and just connect the power adapter to turn it on. You shoudl get the screen to work. After which, power off and then connect the battery back.

If this does not work, it maybe a hardware proble with the screen or the inverter

Toshiba A105-S101 freezes at start up!

I would first attempt to reinstall the software from the install cd. Your Toshiba support page is recomending a new BIOS upgrade. See below:

The battery needs to be taken out once in a while. It is possible to use the ac adapter and power cord without the battery to power your laptop. Please press on the power button for 10 seconds for your computer to turn on. Check if you can see any message on the screen.

Issue

The computer models listed above may display a "Password =" prompt when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set. If this happens, there is no password that will satisfy the password request. If the computer is turned off and back on again, it is very likely that the same password prompt will appear. The computer will be unusable until this problem is fixed.

If the problem has not happened yet, you can prevent it from happening in the future by upgrading the BIOS to the newest version.

The occurrence of this problem on any particular computer is unpredictable -- it may never happen, but it could happen any time that the computer is turned on. If this problem does occur, it will be necessary to send the computer to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider, who will fix the problem at no charge to you.

Resolution

If this problem has not yet occurred on your computer, then click the following link to download and install BIOS version 1.40. This BIOS displays a power-on password prompt only when a power-on password has actually been set via the BIOS Setup program.

You may also browse for a newer version of the computer's BIOS at pcsupport.toshiba.com.

For more help, see Support Bulletin 98081213 Obtaining downloads and support docs from the Toshiba Support website.

If the problem has already occurred on your computer, then please make arrangements with a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider to have this problem fixed at no charge. To locate a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider (ASP), please visit Toshiba's Global ASP Locator at http://pcrepair.toshiba.com

BTW, I've heard that this only happens when you boot up on battery power.

Maybe you can confirm this...

Won't power on

Hi gdpreston1,
According to Toshiba all you need is a bios upgrade.
In very rare cases, the battery pack of your PC may stop accepting a charge, i.e., the battery stops working & no longer supplies power to the computer. To minimize the risk of ever experiencing this problem. Toshiba strongly recommends that you download and install the latest BIOS by clicking this link below.
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1795538&moid=1310944&rpn=PSAA8U&BV_SessionID=@@@@0783506992.1202186758@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfadedefffiikcgfkceghdgngdgmn.0&ct=DL&all_docs=true
ACPI Flash BIOS version 5.90 for Tecra A7/Satellite A105 (Intel) (PTA70U).
File: ta7i0v59.exe
From what you posted you "are" experiencing the above.
Much better than buying a part!
If you need anything else just post back & we'll go from there.
