Replace all the large capacitors you can. Most likely it is a power supply problem. Capacitors use an electrolyte fluid and will dry out over time. If it is over 5 years old, dry out is very probable. If that does not fix the problem, you will have to be a tech to figure out the problem from there.

Hi,

Being more than 20 yr old machine would make a tech suspect anything and everything electronic inside the unit. Offhand the ticking noise could very well be a relay in a cycle of energizing/de-energizing. The flashing systems reset is an indicator of a malfunction and therefore the unit will not operate.

Whatever the problem is, the unit has to be opened up. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings if ever one could be found. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional, somebody who has maintained these machines in the 80s.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

It wont read discs and it makes a ticking noise

That ticking noise is the laser assembly trying to focus beyond the point that it can move.

You system is going blind. Could be a dirty lens or the poor ole girl is just getting old. Try placing the machine vertically and see if she can read the discs better.

If you have a slim machine you can also clean the lens fairly easily. For the fat machines you have to tear into the unit. That is of course a bit more complicated.

You can probably find info on the PSX Scene on how to get most models open and cleaned.

My xbox 360 only plays copies some of the time

your laser is nearly dead and needs replacing, the ticking sound indicates that the laser is at the end of its lifespan OR possibly needs cleaning and the power adjusting.

we can fix this for only £40 inc return delivery to your door.

Disc Read error on original early PS2--ticking noise

Hi you will probably get constant disk errors because it is not the best console you can get. The older versions are now stopped being prossesed. My best bet is to get some rubbing alcohol. The spray doesnt really make an effect but will also make an effect.Im not sure what the effect is but your bets bet is to get rubbing alcohol.

If you have any further questions please ask me.
Thank you.

Ds lite green light flshing pulse sound from speaker

Check if "L2" is in place. Ususally drop from its position in the circuit board near the power switch, is a little black piece with solder in 2 sides. And the symptoms are almost the same as the blown F1 and F2 fuses.

If you opened your DS and didnt found it or wasnt aware and lost it you'll need a parts circuit board to take it from and solder it to your board, as theres no known part specification or schematics for the DS, at least as I know the only way is using a Henry meter to get the L2 value.

And you might have a water damaged board or broken top screen ribbon cable too as for the tick sound from the speaker is new for me.

No sound, no vision, secure connections,

from what I can gather, it sounds like either an overheating issue, but more then likely a cold-joint issue.

I would suggest to try both x-clamp and 12 cent fix. I would try the 12 cent one first just because you dont have to buy anything....unless you need to buy 12 pennies that is, lol. if that doesnt help, then add in the xclamp along with the 12 cent fix to see if it helps.
