Replace all the large capacitors you can. Most likely it is a power supply problem. Capacitors use an electrolyte fluid and will dry out over time. If it is over 5 years old, dry out is very probable. If that does not fix the problem, you will have to be a tech to figure out the problem from there.

Hi,

Being more than 20 yr old machine would make a tech suspect anything and everything electronic inside the unit. Offhand the ticking noise could very well be a relay in a cycle of energizing/de-energizing. The flashing systems reset is an indicator of a malfunction and therefore the unit will not operate.

Whatever the problem is, the unit has to be opened up. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings if ever one could be found. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional, somebody who has maintained these machines in the 80s.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Fridge light doesn't work/makes ticking noise

Let the refrigerator cool for awhile without opening the door. 39 minutes should do. Then check to see if the bulb is warm or hot. If it is the door switch is bad and the light is staying on which will make the plastic expand and cracklel or tick. Hope this helps.

Any suggestions on why i have a ticking noise around engine and battery warning light stays on but strats perfect

Hello, Take your Explorer to an Autozone, Oreillys, or Advance autoparts store and get a free scan on the computer and the charging system. The ticking noise you hear can be the spark jumping from a bad sparkplug coil or wire.

Sometimes an arcing part will make a ticking sound and can charge the electronics with random pulses that can cause permanent damage. It is also possible your Alternator is working below capacity and will make the Battery fail when conditions are right.

This is something which should be checked before you are stranded. I hope you find my solution very helpful in keeping your Explorer operating.

I was going through a drive through and my oil light came on and was beeping. My oil level is fine. What's the problem.

The oil light comes on when there is low pressure not because there is low oil. If the engine wasn't making any ticking or clunking noises when the light cam on I would bet that an oil pressure switch will take care of the problem. If the engine had make a lot of noise and/or the light never wnet ou I would then suspect that there is a problem with the lubrication system.

If you post an engine size I'll let you know where the switch is. Typically they are near the oil filter and have a green connector.

I have an old ideal elan 2 boiler. The pilot light has gone out and wont re-ignite. I have pressed the ignition switch in but there is not even a spark. Does anybody know where the re-set button is on...

Hi, to light the pilot you must first ensure the gas valve button (Grey with 3 symbols on it) is placed in the ignition position, then, while holding the button in towards the gas valve depress the orange ignitor button several times, hold the gas valve button in for about 30 seconds once the pilot lights. If it fails to light and you cannot see a spark when you depress the ignition button the cable could be faulty, the ignitor corroded or damaged or the pilot could be blocked or the gas turned off. If it is an Elan 2 CF boiler there is no reset button.

HP 6110

Is the ticking sound coming from the right side near the bottom? Or the left side near the top. If it is the right bottom then you're looking at a service station. If it is the left top then a scanner unit. Scanner unit is not available from Hp. You can try dismantling and cleaning all mirrors and lenses (usually doesn't work). If it is the service station, you are probably going need parts that are not availble.
