Question about Audiovox SMT5600

Audiovox SMT 5600 will not charge

Is there a way to open the phone and check the solder joints. My phone stopped charging and if I press the connected really hard and hold it, it charges. There is probably a loose solder joint? Thanks

Re: Audiovox SMT 5600 will not charge

If your battery goes COMPLETELY dead, which it will do if phone is not turned OFF and not used for a long period of time, you will need to JUMP START it using you OEM SMT-5600 AC charger. Other AC chargers will not work for this purpose and neither will a USB port.

You can JUMP START the battery using a USB port by cutting off a USB cable to expost the red and black power USB PORT power pins 1 and 4. Remove your SMT-5600 battery and while the modified USB cable is plugged into your USB PORT, hold the BLACK wire to the negative (-) terminal and the RED wire to the positive (+) terminal for about a minute. Replace the battery in the phone and connect the phone to a USB PORT using a standard USB cable. The SMT-5600 charging light may not register for a while, but will eventually light amber to show it is charging, assuming your phone is recoginzed by your computer.

Note some mini USB cables DONOT carry the USB power leads through to the phone, only data. If you have a very thin USB cable, be suspicious the power leads are not being carried in the cable.

Since the USB PORT power is limited to 100ma it cannot hurt the battery, but will insert enough current into a totally flat batter to cause the battery to register a voltage large enough to alllow USB PORT charging, typically 3.7VDC.

USB connection failure to Blackberry 8800

I have the same problem.  The following solution may apply; here is how to IDENTIFY the problem: (1) Phone doesn't connect to desktop software through USB but will through BT (if setup) (2) Phone doesn't charge whether USB-computer, USB-wall, USB-carcharger or does sometimes but you are not sure why it works sometimes but not all the time (3) If you hold, lean, twist, or jiggle the plug at the phone, it may charge or the charge icon may show briefly (Also) Plug is noticeably loose or comes out Solution: if plug is torn loose, damaged, or comes all the way out, go to this site and follow along in kind If plug is simply intermittant: remove all power and the battery, open your phone, and carefully redo the solder joints of the plug.  If you don't have a SMT (surface mount) rated soldering iron w/ tip, you can use the radio shack standard but be sure to only apply the hot tip in pulses (less than/up to 50% of time, less than 3sec each touch) so you don't heat damage the surrounding components. Why: Because the plug gets tugged to the sides causing the solder joints to crack (microscopically).  At first I had to lean books against the plug but then that quit working as well.
This approach also worked on my laptop which quit charging when plug torque flexed the motherboard and cracked the solder at some surface components near the plug.  I found out which components when the varying the force of my multimeter tip cause the component to show open and normal across the solder joint

Phone does not start with sim card on it

Be sure you have SIM card in right. Look at contacts on SIM then allign them with SIM Contacts on the phone.

If this doesn't work, then SIM card itself is highly suspicious. Try it in another phone.

My audiovox smt 5600 can't show start any more if any one can help me restart it with a code pls mail me at

I assume you mean the phone is asking for a network code or password before the Start Menu is available, ie, phone can be used.

If this is so and it is asking for a network code, then you need a SIM card that matches the carrier the phone was designed for. If it is ATT/Cingular, you can buy a SIM card from the new ATT/Cingular network for $6. It is a pay-as-you-GO phone SIM, but once you have it, you can call ATT to as for a number xfer as well as a standard monthly contract using this SIM.

If it is from the old Blue ATT network, then it cannot be used on ANY carrier unless it is unlocked for use on ALL carriers. This would be noted witht the docs that came with the camera. If nothing says ATT/Cingular, and especially if someithing says ATT without Cingular, then it is probably an old Blue ATT phone. You can buy a BLUE SIM off ebay which will get you to the point of being able to use the phones functions, but it will not work to make calls until you unlock it and replace the BLUE SIM with another current carriers SIM. Sprint will not work either because it is not a GSM ATT type network. Cingular and T-Mobile yes.

Google phones model number and UNLOCK and you will find a way to do it yourself at no charge if you have an XP or earlier PC with a USB port. Vista OS cannot be used to do it with the downloaded unlock software. It is also very hard to find anyone that can do it selling Unlock Codes based on phones IEMI code.

If it is not a network lock message, then it may be the last users personal lock password. In this case, you can hard reset the phone by holding down both right and left softkeys while powering on the phone.

Computer won't sync with audiovox smt 5600

You must install ActiveSync software on an Win XP OS available with disk supplied with phone or on MicroSoft support page.

If you are using Win Vista OS, then download latest Mobile Center software while you phone is plugged into USB port.

Phone must be recognized by OS for phone to charge. Nice Audiovox/Microsoft desigh heh? Some times you just want to get designs by the throat and squeeze them.

SMT 5600 does not load OS, screen goes white and then blank.

Screen sound bad, or intermittent connection inside. You can find disassembly instructions on the net. Search with phone model and disassemble. Remove and reattach all cables in case one is lose or contact dirty.

you can use any USB cable, there is nothing specific about any particular brand... now the computer has to recognize the phone. You need the software/driver.
