Sony MW24FM1 either won't respond to DVD commands, or turn-off
Sony MW24FM1 will not respond to DVD commands, from remote or manually, e.g., open tray, play, etc.
If a DVD is inserted in the try, the DVD may play for a few minutes and then suddenly the TV turns-off, and all DVD commands are inoperative. This problem occurs with known good DVDs. Sometimes unplugging TV from 117 VAC wall socket overnight at least allows opening of the DVD tray to take out a DVD.

Sounds like a bad power board. They have random meltdowns all too often. Usually the cause is an overheated transformer caused by power transistor short outs. Possibly sell it. Could get over $100 for it if sold online.

You have got the wrong remote code!
I have copied this from the manual....
Set the command mode for the remote so it matches the command mode for the recorder you set above.
Follow the steps below to set the command mode on the remote.
A Hold down ENTER.
B While holding down ENTER, enter the
command mode code number using the
DVD1 - number button 1
DVD2 - number button 2
DVD3 - number button 3
C Hold down both the number buttons and
ENTER at the same time for more than
There is a manual for this model available in pdf format unless you have the original instruction book. Page 23 outlines 'command mode' where you can try pressing ENTER and the corresponding number buttons simultaneously on the remote for more than 3 seconds while pointing RC at the recorder. In your case, because your recorder is set to command mode 1 - press ENTER and 1 together on the remote. This should allow you back into the on-screen menu to revert the command mode back to 3 (which is the default) and it should work. The online pdf manual for this model: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/RDRVX560_EN_ES.pdf unless you still have the original. Pages 22-24 show some of the setup procedures. The pdf is not very big so you can save it for future use if needed.
You may have to reset the remote to the current command code. Here is the link for how to do that. http://community.sony.com/t5/Remote-Controls/RDR-VX525-Changed-to-DVD3-on-command-control-and-remote-won-t/td-p/158777
please go to the below website and select the model of your remote.
An page opens in that you have REMOTE CONTROL CODE FINDER,click it
Choose the device type and device make it gives the code for your remote.
Then follow the procedure given below,
1 Turn on the DVD ( The DVD should play ). 2 Select DVD on the remote (= Press the device key for which you are programming the remote ) : keep the key pressed for 5 seconds until it blinks twice and then remains lit. 3 Enter the given four-figure code for your brand , using the digit keys . – The DVD key will now blink twice and then remains lit. • If the DVD key blinks once , the code has not been entered properly or The wrong code has been entered. Start again from step 2. 4 Press and hold the “ standby/power on” key and immediately release it when the TV switches off (standby). – This may take up to 30 seconds. 5 Turn on the DVD and check if you can operate all needed functions on your DVD – Make sure the receiving device is able to respond and accept the desired command . 6 Press the DVD key twice to exit setup mode and save your settings. – When no key is pressed for 2 minutes or more the remote control will exit setup mode automatically. • If the device does not respond at all or not to all of the key commands or if you cannot find the code for your brand, enter ‘0, 0, 0, 0’ in step 3 and continue with step 4. The remote control will now search the full database for a code that works with your DVD Full database search may take up to 15 minutes.
Your DVD recorder is set on DVD-3 remote option, check DVD Recorder remote lower section for DVD Mode button that has 3 options, set it on DVD-3 and recorder will start responding on your commands of remote.
OK..I see the problem now.. Basically, you have to set both the remote and the recorder to the same command mode. (Default id DVD3). Please see the user manual I have posted in your premium query. It will tell you how to do this on page 22.
