Hotpoint Gas oven doesn't light

The controls all seem to work, but the oven doesn't ignite.  Range works fine, broiler works fine, only the oven refuses to light.  The Pre heat light comes on, but that's all.  I've tried to see if the oven would work on a preset cooking timer, but that also doesn't get a flame in the oven, even thought it runs through the cycle and turns itself "off".  This happened once before, about 3 months ago, but after 2 days, it started working fine. The controls all seem to work, but the oven doesn't ignite. Range works fine, broiler works fine, only the oven refuses to light. The Pre heat light comes on, but that's all. We have replaced the bake ignitor switch and the oven still doesn't ignite. What do we do now?

If its not the oven ignitor itself then its usually the gas valve in the range.

SOURCE: Hotpoint Gas oven doesn't light

Sounds like the oven ignitor is weak.  If everything else is working it must be a bad ignitor.  These are usually easy to replace and can expect to pay $70-$100 for the part.  Check to see if it glows when in bake mode first.  If it does then replace the ignitor.  You can look at the ignitor,  when not on, if it is white-ish then it needs replace or if it doesn't have a full glow, can compare to broil ignitor, then it needs replaced.  Let me know if you have further questions.

pull out the racks and remove the bottom floor of the oven, turn it on bake,if the ignitor doesn't glow most likely it's bad,if it does glow and it doesn't ignite within 40 to 60 seconds the ignitor is bad.even though it glows doesn't mean it's good,it works by amps.it takes 3.2 amps.for a flat ignitor to open the gas valve and 2.5 amps for a round ignitor to open the gas valve.

Hi,
My bet is that the broiler ignitor has been out for a while and you just never knew it...
I would change the ignitor as a first try to fix it it is themost common failure..

Replacing Igniter on Hotpoint RGB528PEAWW Gas Kitchen Range

you should have a broil glow coil at tol and one on bottom. to access the bottom, open the door and look to the back on the oven floor. ther should be a srew one on each side remove and lift bottom up. you should be looking at the glow coil. i would also remove the pan drawer for access.it would be abnormal for bth the broil and bake to fail at the same time. if this is the case i would confirm power is leaving control to the selected glow bar. they shoul pull about 3.2 amps. then i would focus on the valve. which is opened by the amp draw of the bar. one wire on the valve is common and the other feeds from the control through the valve to the glow bar
