Scanned negative comes out black

I just bought a Stratford Labs GFP-001 and the software is by Arcsoft. I have a three month old HP computer with Windows Vista Home Premium . I have installed the software as per instructions three times and yet when I click on aquire after placing negatives in the tray and placing them as instructed all I get is a black jpeg. Arcsoft will not help because they won't accept my registration as they say I have the wrong serial number though I got it off the bottom of the scanner and have triple checked it. Ther is no other serial number. So I am turning to you for help.

    We purchased the Straford Labs GFP-001 slide Image Copier over Christmas and we are having the same problem. I have installed the software 2x and it will scan the slides but they turn up black.



    The instruction manual is limited as to answers. Can anyone help?

    Precisely the problem as explained previously. All sofware is loaded and when I insert the slides, no images appear, it is just black.

    DO YOU HAVE A DIGITAL CAMERA? I WOULD TAKE A PHOTO OF THE SERIAL NUMBER AND EMAIL THE PHOTO TO ARCSOFT AND AS THEM WHAT THEIR PROBLEM IS NOW? DO THIS, IF POSSIBLE, OR BORROW A CAMERA AND DO IT THEN REPLY TO ARCLIGHT1217, AND WE'LL WORK ON YOUR PROBLEM.

Check your system, is it 32 or 64 bit. The 64 bit driver may need to be installed. 64 bit driver is on our web site. http://www.shopperite.com/shopping-faq/bellhowell-downloads-manuals.html

Repair tool is not working on some photos


I had the same problem.
Scan the negatives in color mode and then convert to b&w in ACDSEE. The repair tool will now work on that negative.

New computer (1 month old). Worked fine until today. When tuned on, screen won't come on, and CD disk tray won't pop out.


Since your PC is a new set, best for you to do is to send it back to the vendors to have it fixed. If you open up the casing & the seal is broken your warranty will be void, thus you will not be able to claim warranty from hp.

Can't calibrate new Stratford Labs GFP-001


Can't calibrate the new Stratford "Digital Image Copier" GFP-001.
Followed all instalation instructions till I got to the part where it said that the unit had to be calibrated for the first time used. It said to "Click" on the "calibrate" button to perform the calibration,
but there was no calibration button shown, or no on screen desplay pop-up. Would like to know what I can do to rectify this problem. I am using an Acer Laptop with "Vista Home Premium";
which has 2.0 USB Ports which is called for. Does this device need to be calibrated, or can it be used without the required calibration?

Lost installation CD


Well, I cannot help you with a disk, but I can offer this insight:

Seems this scanner only works with USB2 ports, and if you only have USB1 ports, you will not have any luck.

Additionally, while I cannot help you with drivers, I have found others who say that Windows XP (and it is assumed Vista) does not need drivers to operate this scanner.

Simply go to the Control Panel, (after it's plugged in to a USB2) and click on Scanners and Cameras. The operating system will guide you through a wizard which will allow you to scan images into your computer.

Once there, however, you are sort of on your own to choose the software you want to edit those images.

Regarding your issue, please try to reinstall your TotalMedia 3.5 following these steps(before that, please make sure you keep the original installer):
Step1: Pull out your device and uninstall from Control Panel -> Programs -> uninstall TM, restart PC
Step2. delete these files/folders:
W7 32-bit OS:
C:\Users\current user\AppData\Roaming\ArcSoft
C:\Users\current user\AppData\Local\ArcSoft
C:\Users\All Users\ArcSoft
C:\Program Files\ArcSoft
C:\ProgramData\ArcSoft\licensedata

W7 64-bit OS:
C:\Users\current user\AppData\Roaming\ArcSoft
C:\Users\current user\AppData\Local\ArcSoft
C:\Users\All Users\ArcSoft
C:\Program Files (X86)\ArcSoft
C:\ProgramData\ArcSoft\licensedata
Step3: Clean up the registration files:
1).Go to Start menu and click "Run", type "regedit" and press Enter.
2).Delete [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ArcSoft] and [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ArcSoft].
Step 4: Reinstall TM after rebooting the computer.
