My Lexmark X83 prints a shortened and blurry page and makes a funny noise. I changed the cartridges and cleaned the maintenance station.

When I start the printing it sounds like the part that is clicking coincides with the paper jam and/or nothing prints on the paper when it does come out.

  • harrywoods Nov 14, 2008

I can not find a foreign object inside the printer. It sounds like the problem is whatever mechanism pushes the paper through the printer.

  • harrywoods Nov 14, 2008

Where can I get my printer serviced in the San Diego area?

  • harrywoods Nov 14, 2008

I think you have clarified the problem. And I may have to buy a new printer.

This article outlines various techniques for resolving a blurry print issue. Cleaning the print cartridge nozzles is necessary when:

  • Characters are not printing completely.
  • White dashes appear in graphics or printed text.
  • Print is smudged or too dark.
  • Vertical, straight lines are not smooth.
  • Colors on print jobs are faded, or they differ from the colors on the screen.
Clean the Print Cartridge Nozzles using the Computer
    1. Load plain paper.
    2. Open the Lexmark Solution Center (go to Start, Programs, Lexmark XXXX Series, Lexmark Solution Center).
    3. From the Maintenance tab, click Clean to fix horizontal streaks.
    4. Click Print. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through to clean the clogged nozzles.
    5. Print the document again to verify that print quality has improved.
    6. If print quality has not improved, try cleaning the print cartridge nozzles up to two more times.
Clean and Wick the Cartridge
  1. Try cleaning and wicking the cartridge to help improve the print quality. See this article:
  2. http://support.lexmark.com/perl/support/support.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:95:0:0&docid=ENUS18888
  3. for directions.
  4. When this step is complete, try to run the clean print nozzles (CPN) operation again.
Auto Alignment · Align the print cartridges
Align the print cartridges after installing them to improve print quality. To do this:
    1. Load plain paper.
    2. Open the Lexmark Solution Center.
    3. From the Maintenance tab, click Align to fix blurry edges.
    4. Click Print. NOTE: Discard the page after it prints.

    5. copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

Detached the cartridge and wipe its head well. Put it back properly(the color and black migth enter change). Unplug usb cable of the printer and switch it back. Try print again... Thank you for using fixya...please don't rate me if you are not satisfied....

Have a look at the clutch assembly located on the left side with the top cover up you can reach and push on the lever sticking up the pen carriage interacts with the clutch when loading the media.

If the arm is all sloppy then the clutch needs to be replaced .

Turn the printer off and open the access cover. check if anything stuck on the paperpath Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button.  press the Select button. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.
If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see.  If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.  If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot. Take a #10 envelope and feed it at left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers. Move it to and fro, and sidewards . If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this will free the roller
Remove the paper. Sounds like there's a small piece left behind. Check the gears & possibly near the sensor. Confirm the path through the fuser is cleared. Also, depending on the age & how much it's been used, the rollers could need replacing.

What you could do is check to see if the rollers have become dislodged at the back of the printer and put them back in place if you can, in my experience a part of the cog mechanism breaks ( which explains the noise ) lexmarks are hard to get into and most people give up and throw them away when this happens, you could also try re-aligning the cartridges that may also help

good luck

Press the ink cartridges into the slots and listen for a clicking noise after the insertion. Although you will need to firmly place the ink cartridges into the available slots, it still needs to be done gently.

Better try first checking inside the printer for any foreign object that is causing that noise to avoid any further damage on it that will be the first step that you need to do...

The ink cartridge head and the roller only comes contact with the paper. unplug the printer and clean the roller with clean cloth and a little alcohol. make sure the is no foreign material inside the printer also check for bits of paper.

If I schedule a print for my Lexmark X83 it feeds one sheet of paper straight through to the tray but does not print anything. No alarms anywhere on system. Same thing occurs if I ask for test print or...

Sounds like a clogged print head. In the lexmark printer software there should be a maintenance tool where you can try and clean the print heads.
By the same token the X83 is about 10 years old and well past the life cycle of most ink jet printers so if the troubleshooting tools don't get it back in order, it will be cheaper to replace than to repair.

Lexmark all in one printer has broken lines when printing. ive cleaned nozzel loads & its a new cartridge

If you have replaced your ink cartridge with a new one and are continuing to experience difficulties with print quality, please try cleaning and wicking the ink cartridge. If this fails to resolve the issue, the maintenance station may have an excess build-up of ink.
The maintenance station is located inside the printer on the right hand side. This is the same area where the cartridges sit when in the "idle" position. To access the maintenance station: Unplug the power supply from the back of your printer, open the front cover and look above the steel rod. You should see a conveyor belt with rubber teeth on it, like a fan-belt. On some models, the cartridge access will be very small, but the belt should still be visible. Take the top part of the belt and move it gently to the right.
***Note*** please do not pull outwards on the belt. The cartridges should come over towards the left side of the printer. The maintenance station will be on the right side, on the bottom of the printer behind the fixed cover. Clean the area with several damp cotton swabs or damp paper towels until the build up of ink is removed.
Once the maintenance station has been cleaned you should "wick" the cartridges. Remove the cartridges from the printer. Get a clean damp paper towel and lay it on a flat surface. Set the ink cartridge right side up, with the ink nozzles touching the towel and hold in this position for about 15 seconds. Then wipe the nozzles across in one direction only (left to right). Repeat this process, each time using a clean spot on the paper towel, until it looks clean. Dab the cartridge on a dry towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.
After you have wicked the cartridges place them back into the printer, securing them into the place. Plug the power supply back into the printer and close the cover. Next, click on "Start," "All Programs," "Lexmark series," "Lexmark Solution Center" and click on "Maintenance." Now, please click on "Install Cartridges." Select the cartridges part numbers and choose if they are "Old" or "New." Cancel the Alignment page. Then, click on "Clean to fix horizontal streaks" in "Lexmark Solution Center." The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple), and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps.
If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean Print Nozzle" page a couple more times to try and clear it up.

Lexmark X83 prints streakily or not at all

Have you used a new cartridge.

Do the test for running and cleaning new cartridge heads and the alignment procedure..

(Go to Start, settings, printers, right click on printer then click properties, cartridge maintenance.)

Other thing that might cause problem is build up of ink in right side of machine below printer cartridges.

You will have to strip down machine to get at this area.
Make a note of exactly what action you take when doing this so that you can bits back together.

I use cotton buds to get at the build up of ink or tissue wound round end of pointed object.
Go gently. When you have cleared what you can care reassemble bits and go through above procedure again. Check for any unusual noises that may denote part of mechanism has worn.

Lexmark X83 Changed black cartridge print warns Black ink low Prints so faintly can't be read

the printer heads probably need cleaning. If you go to control panel>printers and scanners> right click the printer you are using> click in properties, there should be an option there for maintenance. Choose clean print heads. When the heads have been cleaned print out the result. If this has improved but is still a bit faint repeat the steps until the page is clearly readable.

Lexmark x5150 color printing issues

Sometimes ,poor print quality may be due to ink build up in the maintenance station ..

Your ink cartridges stay in the maintenance station when not in use. Depending on the printer model, the maintenance station may be located on the right or left side of the printer. NOTE: You do not need to remove the cover in order to access the maintenance station.

To access the wiper for cleaning purposes:
Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
Move the ink cartridge carrier to the left by gripping the top of the rubber carrier belt and gently pulling it across towards the right-hand side of the printer.
Take a warm, damp paper towel or napkin and gently clean the wiper on the right-hand side of the maintenance station.
