Question about Canon CanoScan D660U Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Power problem? Hello - I'm having a bit of trouble with my scanner. Haven't used it with my new PowerBook, and after installing the new driver - and plugging power / USB cable in ... i'm getting no response from the scanner. The LED light doesn't even come on. I'm thinking this might be a power supply issue (i haven't used it in the last 3 months) - or could it be an issue between by laptop and the scanner?

Re: Power problem?

Ensure it is plugged in all the way. Do you have a meter to measure the voltage out of the Powersupply? it should be 12VDC. I would expect some sign of life even w/o the USB connected..

Not a mac person so this may/may not be relevant from the user guide

• iMacs running Mac OS 8.5 or 8.5.1 require a system update.
Please see Problems with the Scanner in the Troubleshooting
section of the CanoScan Setup Utility CD-ROM.

My XP PC crashed, and I am now using a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. I tried to install the set up CD, but it said it is compatible up to XP, 32-bit. Is there an updated driver so I could use it with this...

the flat bed scanner will not work properly because the driver you have is for windows xp, you have to download the driver for that scanner which support windows 7, got to the website of cannon and find your device and driver supported with windows 7, plug in you scanner and make full update your system and windows will update the driver of your scanner.

thank you

I can't install may scanner on windows 7 64bit

If you just got a new computer that happens to be windows 7 64 bit, and you've had this scanner for some time. That would be the reason why the scanner won't install, as the disc that came with it is out of date. I checked Canon's driver website if you ( > support > selected your model > drivers and support) and it looks like there are no windows 7 64 bit drivers available. However there are two things you can try. Go to that site, and download + install the windows 7 drivers, if they don't work you can use the windows Vista 64 bit drivers. Vista drivers and 7 drivers operate very similarly, so if the regular 7 drivers do not work, once again find where it says Vista x64.
Good luck!

How can i get Umax Astra 4100 scanner driver for XP 64-bit

I'm afraid there are no drivers running under Windows Seven for this unit.
If you have the W XP install disc , you could install a virtual version of W XP on your HDD ( )
You could also partition your HDD ( ) and install W XP on the new one .
Otherwise , you will have to buy a new scanner .
Regards .

Trying to install Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED, for some reason the installation disc doesn't have the LS-5000 ED driver software...? I am running Win Vista. Any ideas?

I do not believe Nikon made drivers specifically for Vista, but you can use the solution here to make your own driver "inf" file and install some that will work anyway. Please read this and carefully follow the directions. If you are using 32 bit, use the 32 bit drivers. If 64 bit, then 64 bit drivers, when creating the new inf.

Canon N650U and Mac OSX

Canon only has this scanner driver in OS9 and it will run in classic mode if you are using OSX. This $40 software will work with your scanner in OSX, but for $40 you can purchase an OSX native scanner too.

Canon Scanner - Twain Pilot

QUICK ANSWER: use the original USB cable that came with the scanner.

Using Vista (32 bit version) and a Canon N670U scanner with the new drivers installed from the CanonUSA website. This driver is works for Canon scanners: LiDE 20, LiDE 30, N670U, N676U and N1240U, found at

Canon says it doesn't support Vista 64 bit version. I couldn't get the scanner to work and kept getting the TWAIN error also, despite uninstalling / reinstalling the driver. Finally, decided to disconnect my 3rd party 16 foot USB cable and use the original cable. I swear, it WORKED! I can't explain why, but it did. Perhaps there is increased resistance, hence reduced power going to the scanner by using longer/different USB cable? Anyhow, it worked...go figure. If you have the 64 bit version of Vista, I guess it won't work(?).
