How would I go about powering it off so it can reset itself, or do they do that?

Hey Crystakwi, lets find out why with the informations you gave! this got to be a heat pump,-- up flow--you live in a cold climate--probably in the upper United States--! The Heat pump takes the heat out of the air down to 40*, then the auxillary heat kicks in , or you can just turn the thermostat to auxillary heat and it will kick in the back up heater, whethet it be gas heat --oil-- or electric heat to provide the heat from any degrees out side temperatures. Its cool , its just doing it job! Thank-you- very- much!

OK, aBoomer Sooner fan or an O S U cowboy fan? If this is charged up with freon right, it will heat the house with the temperature outside down to 40* , then the aux. heat kicks in. When the temperature gets back up, then the auxillary heat will kick out. theres a thermostat on the outside unit to call for aux. T Y V M.

Hey again, if its blowing cold air , then check to see if the fan switch is in the auto position. cause when calling for heat, the timmer (after 90 seconds) kicks in, or the box heat up and close the fan switch,so that it don,t blow out cool air.---To reset it ,kill power at the breaker box and turn it back on.----! And when the outside temperature gets above 47* it should automatically go back to regular heat from the outside unit!

Oh yes, as to it barley blowing, check the filter to see if its clean or stopped up. But if the fan motor is barley blowing (the fan motor has 2 speed, hi--cool --- low--heat)Time for service call!

After 18 years of service, it is not cost effective to just replace the heat exchanger. Go the complete replacement route. There may be a utility company incentive to do it.
