I get no picture, I do see a momentary glow of the screen when powered up but it goes black in less than a second. I have replaced x and y boards on other plasmas that were diagnosed bad but have never started from scratch trying to diagnose. There are no visible blown or leaking capacitors, not sure where to start next. I haven't found a repair shop that will test boards individually.

Original post stated no picture but a glow when powered up that lasts less than a second. No visible blown or leaking capacitors. Trying to pinpoint before randomly replacing boards as I'm told some need to be replaced in pairs.

Leaky capacitors are not as common as you would think , but bulging ones are and dried out ones are
the best way to check the capacitors without pulling them out of the circuit is to set the ohm meter to the highest setting , the capacitor should charge and hold and never become an open , but larger capcitors like on the power or flyback or oscilating circuit really can only be replaced ,otherwise extensive testing with a (555 timer) oscillator circuit and oscilloscope will need to be done to ensure that it doesn't have a leaky dc flow. because tv sets get hot , checking the solder connections on the most hot areas and resoldering suspected areas will help to eliminate possible causes
on these type of sets the surface mount components( in hot areas ) are the most likely culprits which are up there with the transistors and capacitors
you must be sure to positively eliminate the lamp , the door switch and the tuner , resolder just to make sure those can be eleiminated
that will be the best way to start determining the cause (elimination)
I will do some more research , but you must do some testing and post the results to better help to start the elimination process

if premtech can get you a service manual for this set , I would get it , I cannot get one for this set right now but I know what to look for , mostly looking for no power going thru a circuit is a good way , but having the schematic to check for the voltage readings listed on the schematic can help alot to find a problem

but I'll be here waiting on those results , so i can further help

NO - - the part numbers you have listed above are for the 50" line LG, yes basically Vizio uses them also in some of their 50" models, but is this the problem you're having with your Tv?? Before I spend that kind of wampum I'd get a couple of diagnostics done to determine what the cause is - - could save hundreds of dollars...

    tylerfeltz,

A couple of the guys above have some pretty good advice, you need to know what you're going after before simply shot-gunning the repair. It sounds to me like the power supply but I would test that before simply replacing it.

Secondly, some boards, (IN SOME MODELS), do need to be replaced in pairs for greater reliability and off-hand I can't think of any in that unit unless maybe upper and lower y-drives or inverters.

I do have the service manual if you want to email me privately and I can send it to you. Just please make sure to send enough info in your mail that I can know what I'm doing. I get nearly 3000 emails a day so "send me the manual" won't do it.

They are mainly LG/Vizio mamufactured parts, that also fit some zenith model. They should be OK , depending on your model.

    See

    6871QZH044C

Contact the seller providing the exact model number, they will confirm if parts are OK.

If you have a glow and then raster disappears, it is often because of a faulty power supply, not because of a faulty sustain card.

The capacitors must be tested to find out which one is faulty and generally it is better to replace the whole power board. Particularly if you are not a technician.

To test a sustain card instead, you just start the tv without the sustain card and turn off after one second or so.
If without the sustain card the TV has raster, then the sustain is faulty.

Call Vance Baldwin toll free, call at (800) 432-8542 and enquiry about a power board for your model, I think part number you provided us are wrong. Part list for this model is not available online. Ask them the right part number for your model.

I have a 42" plasma zenith and not want to turn

The fix for this set is usually to replace the y-sus and z-sus boards at the same time. If you send them out you can have them rebuilt but usually only replacing one is only a temporary repair. I am very experienced on these, trust me. Sorry for the bad news. Good Luck, Russmann.

My zenith plasma tv popped real loudlike a car backfiring and then the tv picture went black. power on green light wil turn on but it automatically cuts itself back off to the red light

There's an over current fault in the power supply or the Y-sustain convergence board. The loud pop was either a capacitor or pico-fuse breaking from excessive current overload. Sounds like 2 or 3 mosfets have shorted at the gate ends. Plasma TV's always have this problem because they generate too much heat and the components cant take the load conditions. Make your next TV an LCD...

To fix this problem have your local repair shop do it for you.....

any questions please ask.....

Heard a "pop" then went dead.

Sorry to say - it sounds like the 'pop of death'. The 50" Zenith plasma is very common for having a power failure issue. The problem resides in the Y-Sustain board in most cases. The Toshiba 50HP66 and Vizio P50HDM (as well as LG and HP 50" Plasmas) also have the same issue as they all use the same PDP Panel (plasma panel). The parts are manufactured by LG/Zenith Corporation. Since your Zenith is the model i'm thinking of (Z50PX2D), then the board you would need is the following:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/PCB-Y-SUS-MAIN-FOR-HP-HP-PL5060N-TELEVISION-p/2 761-hp-hp-pl5060n.htm

The above site is the ONLY place that I have ever found selling this hard to find part and the price is reasonable. If they are out of stock on that exact link, just search for 6870QYC004C on their site and you might find one that is in stock.

NOTE: Before making any purchases, please check the part and make sure it is what your TV needs. I am simply making recommendations and trying to point you to the right direction.

HDTV was ruuning & then popped. Then nothing

This is a common problem on these plasma TV's. The problem resides inthe high voltage boards known as the X and Y Sustain boards.. You canpurchase them here for a very reasonable price:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/Y-SUSTAIN-FOR-42-PLASMA-TV-PN-6871QYH036A-p/sku9510.htm

The above link is to a Y-SUS board. The X-Sus board is often the 2nd cause of failure and can be found here:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/X-SUSTAIN-6871QZH041B-6870QZE017D-6871QZH052D-p/sku9509.htm

Totest which board is failing, you need to check voltage input to theYSUS board first... Input should be 120V from Power supply, outputshould be above 250V.. Do this test with XSUS disconnected. IF 250+Vexists, then XSUS is damaged. If not, then the YSUS is the faulty part.

50' LG plasma TV has thin lines running verticaly through tv

HI, this will happen when the power isn't distributed correctly, in return, depriving the main board of its needed current for operations. this will usually produce these lines. Replacing the power control board will fix this issue. LG Electronics/Zenith Part Number: 6871QYH039B

MY Plasma Zenith TV went "POP"?

For those of you suffering with the loud POP and dead syndrome on this model the "guest" comments here are correct. The Y-Sustain, Z-Sustain and both the upper and lower Y-Drive boards are usually replaced at the same time to prevent any damage from taking out the Y-Sus and Z-Sus boards a second time. You might like to know that the original part numbers for both the Sustain boards have been changed since original manufacturing in an attempt to prevent this problem from happening again and these parts are NOT cheap.
Y-Sus - p/n# 6871QyH039B - $337.74
Z-Sus - p/n# 6871QzH044C - $244.68
Lower Y-Drive - p/n# 6871QdH089A - $132.48
Upper Y-Drive - p/n# 6871QdH088A - $132.48

Above prices do not include shipping or sales tax if applicable.
Unfortunately techs have little voice in trying to get the manufacturers to correct these problems before the warranty runs out - knowing that after warranty repairs are going to be met with quite some resistance when it's coming out of the consumer's pocket.
Also, for reference, I've done about half a dozen of these and all have been under some warranty or extended warranty. Labor was approximately 6.5 hours so you can plan to spend roughly $1400 - $1600 for this repair..
Thought maybe if I posted here it would help a few find the answers they were looking for..
