This solution may sound stupid, but it is affective. Try to press really long time (about 1-2 minutes) on the power button of the laptop. wait for it to shut down completely. Then turn it on to see what happens.
What may have caused this is an update of any sort.
To take out of hibernation, press the power button for less than 1 second.
Then go into the control panel and disable hibernation as described below.
Disable the your mouse's "ability to wake up computer" in device manager.
Use keyboard to wake up your computer.
Click Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power Options > Hibernate tab. Then clear the Enable Hibernationcheck box. If this doesn't resolve the issue,Please post back. Please rate this a fixya.
One thing you can do to narrow it down is to go to Start > My Computer > RIGHT click on My Computer > click Manage > expand Event Viewer > Click on Applications and see if you have any Red ! around the time it was supposed to be hibernating.
If you see a message like "application hang" you can try uninstalling and reinstalling that particular app.
An easier way is to use a program called smart shutdown.
