Convergence board- Repair/ replace?? who has done this?

I've got issues with the color convergence, and can't correct with magicfocus, or manually with grid. Pretty sure it's a convergence problem. Anyone ever replace the convergence board? Is it like a computer that can snap in a new one? or is it part of another assembly? I'm trying to decide if I can fix this myself. Thanks -Mark

Re: Convergence board- Repair/ replace?? who has done...

Mark, there are no real user replaceable parts inside this projection set. All the parts are soldered into place, so if you have solid state repair experience, you may be able to do this repair yourself. there are no snap in parts here. i would say to you, play it safe and call in a tech to assist you in this repair, as there is no quick fix, or any parts you can replace, not without tearing into the main chassis assembly. Good Luck Please do not forget to rate this thread.

Replace convergence ic's probably stk392-150 and check all resistors normal values 1.5 ohm-2.2 ohm-2.0 ohm-3.9 ohm check out of circuit- tolerance has to be dead on.

Screen looks 3D Colors don't line up One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu. Screen is bowed or warped.

The convergence Ics have blown and need replacement. The pico fuses on the D board and G board will also need to be checked and replaced with the ICs. The Sony Type 1 convergence repair kit from is the correct kit for your model which includes the components and the CD with repair instructions.

Colors converge will not adjust. What can be done?

When the convergence will not adjust after you know you have set them correctly using your TV's convergence adjustment, your convergence board went bad. You can either repair it yourself with kits sold online (links below) but unless you know how to solder very well, opt for a repair guy. Your model will cost between $350 and $450 if you hire someone.

If you like to tinker but not dwell into the soldering world, try finding the same model for free or dirt cheap on a web site like that still works but like where a kid jumped into the screen!, and swap out the board.

Good Luck!

Convergence issue Blue not convering correctly, but the other colors do. The blue is warped at the top and bottom of the screen. Is this problem something that can be fixed?

Yes,the covergence ICs and precision resistors can be replaced to rebuild the area. A reputable shop may charge around $300 . If you are technical person,I can guide you further to do yourself!

Red color convergence issue; Red lines are curved

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Getting lines to line up

Hi, if the green isn't straight to begin with you will need to go into the convergence sub menu and align it there code is 062597 status then follow the instructions to adjust the green first, then red , then blue multipoint and save it.
pressing menu to switch arrows to move/adjust status to back up , make sure to scroll down to save multipoint before exiting, power off when done.
If any color will not move or is more than 1 inch out of adjustment you may need to check the resistors to that convergence color .
hope this helps

Picture is all distorted ,colors dont match up need 3d glasses to watch

HI, this is basic convergence failure. the convergence board controls the RGB stream and , if its malfunctioning or, the convergence chip set is damaged, it will distort the entire display and the colors will not be regulated correctly as you are experiencing at this time.

simply replacing the convergence board in this unit will fix your issue.

Red color convergence on Toshiba 57H81

Often convergence issues do not require the entire board to be replaced. You can resolve it by replacing the convergence ICs. The part in question is STK392-110. You will need two of them and they cost around 10$ each. But replacing them is a pretty complicated procedure and I would not suggest it to someone without prior experience. A service manual should get you started in the right direction if you are planning to do this yourself.

: Disconnect from the power supply before you start the repair. Also read the legend, the hv circuits are denoted by a special symbol, so you will know what you shouldn't touch.

You may also need to replace the nearby resistors that may have popped the IC in the first place. Read the service manual for further details.

Good luck,

Convergence Issues

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Convergence problem???

I am a TV tech and have had experience with this type of problem on many sets...So Far the only trouble is the 2 output ic's stk392-110 which should be replaced with the upgrade stk392-180..All three Color Amps are within these ic's for both horizontal and vertical convergence. Sometimes a resistor or two will burn out as well because of the short in these ic's. Be sure to be extrremely careful unsoldering and soldering and use good heat sink compound and fasten securely to the heatsink metal. Manual convergence calibration may be necessary after the ic's are replaced. First try Touch Focus after the ic's have been Properly replaced. This repair should be done by competent personnel and takes about 3 hours because of dis-assembly and re-assembly time. I am writing this because i have seen on this site mis-leading info. i come to these sites myself to verify part numbers and to see if there have been additional complications such as complete shut-down.
