Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

5 Answers

I've already fixed the "waste ink absorber" problem thanks to your fabulous website, and my printer has been working again for 2 months since then. Yesterday, got Service error 6A00 which said to "Cancel printing and turn the printer off and then back on. If this doesn't clear the error, see the printer manual for more detail". I did this and it worked again. Today, it won't work no matter what -- the yellow light keeps blinking on my Canon Pixma IP 4000R.

Interesting, already tried shutting down and restarting -- overnight actually and printer didn't work all morning, no matter how many times I restarted it. Yellow light kept flashing. Just turned it back on AGAIN and tried printing an email, and now it works! Hope it doesn't keep being temperamental.

  • Vivian Rebeiro Nov 13, 2008

No-one actually seems to read the whole post. I shut down the printer for hours. I've done this several times. I shut down the computer also. Still would not work this morning. Suddenly, it decided to work a few minutes ago.

  • Vivian Rebeiro Nov 13, 2008

No, as the printer seems to have fixed itself. I had already done your solution several times, without success. The printer just began working again. If it gets temperamental again, I will post again.

Hi There,

The 6A00 error means that there is a piece of paper (probably very small) jamming the sliding mechanism
Try this---> Move the printing head to the left--> (use an auxiliar light)--> Check the right side--> you will see a white piece--> push it towards the back of the printer --> the piece of paper will pop out
Hope this helps. If so, please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly

also it means that an ink cartridge is not installed or ink cartridge not recognized

  • mmechanics Nov 13, 2008

roblem: one or more of the inktank chips are corrupt. If at least one cartridge is corrupt, the printer will not work. Must purchase corrupted ink cartridge, or call canon for replacement.

Solution: Instead of buying a complete set of ink, find out which ink cartridge is corrupt, and needs replacing:

1.put all ink tank into the printer without the chip. close printer cover. computer should alert that "the following ink tank cannot be recognised. Printing cannot be executed because the ink tank...." You should see a picture of the ink in the alert box.
The picture in the warning box shows that the black, black. yellow, magenta, cyan are not inserted.

2.Starting with the blue ink, remove blue ink from the printer, reinsert chip into ink tank, then put the ink tank back into the printer. Close Printer cover. Notice that this time, if the ink chip isn't faulty, computer alerts that only black, black, yellow, magenta are not inserted into your printer.
If it is faulty, then you see another alert box, about unrecognized ink - if so go to step 4.

To test if the chips on the other ink cartridges(tanks) are faulty:

    3. Repeat step 2, with the rest of the ink tanks. from right to left(blue, magenta, yellow, pgiblack, black)
    4. Purchase corrupt ink tank. or call Canon for a replacement.

MP730 printer message "Waste Ink Nearly Full".

There is ink absorbers located at both ends of the printerwhere the ink head move.
To dry the ink absorber, power up the printer and open the cover so the inkcartridges and print head will move to the middle of the printer.
Then take several sheets of absorbent tissue, fold it into a pad and place itinside the printer over the ink absorber on the far left hand side of theprinter to soak up the excess ink. You may need to change the absorbent tissuea few times. Then repeat the same procedure on the right hand ink absorber.
Closethe lid and the printer should now function normally.

Message says :"waste ink absorber

Clean it out, its a pad underneath the print head, you've not said which model printer you have so I suggest you go to the manufacturers web site, follow links for support and see if there's a FAQ frequently asked questions page with your issue mentioned.

Own a Canon Pixma Printer MP160. Receiving message "Ink Absorber is almost full". How do I fix this problem? Thank you, Cathy

There are two ways to fix this:

First Solution - Clean the Absorber pads
The absorber pads is filled with waste ink. Access the printer to get these two absorber pads and clean it with soap and running water. After cleaning return it back. To access the printer, first open the top cover for the ink cartridge. The absorber pads are seated under the cartridge carrier, when the cover is open the cartridge carrier will move to the middle leaving the two absorber pads accessible. Use a tweezer to lift up the pads.

Second Solution - Reset the Printer to clear the error
1. Turn off the printer (but make sure power cable is plugged in wall outlet).
2. Press and hold down the Stop/Reset button
3. While holding the Stop/Reset button, press and hold down Power button.
4. While holding down the Power button, release the Stop/Reset button.
5. While still holding the Power button, press the Stop/Reset button twice.
6. Now release the Power button.. (wait until it display "service mode")
7. Press the Stop/Reset button four times
8. Turn off the printer

When you turn on again the printer it will surely works again.

Much appreciated if you could give a four thumbs up rating for this solution.
Thank you for using Fixya.

What is waste ink obserber? How it will be replaced?

waste ink pad absorber is like a waste tank made of absorbent pads, in here the waste ink is absorbed. In time this waste ink pad will be saturated or full. When it happens the printer will suddenly stop working. The printer needs to be reset to function again and the waste ink pad replaced to prevent flooding of waste ink inside the printer. The waste ink pad is replaced by disassembling the printer.

I have a Canon MP700 Printer. The message "waste tank nearly full" appeared. As I couldn't find any help in the manual I removed the ink cartridges to look for a "waste tank". ...

Dear miggsy,
Waste ink absorber capacity of your printer has rise to about 90-95 %. Tentatively, you can continue printing by pressing STOP/RESET button. When ink absorber capacity reach about 100%, the printer stop working and message 'Waste Ink Tank is Full' appears.
To fix this problem, you need to reset waste ink counter. It strongly recommended that you replace waste ink absorber after resetting waste ink counter.
Here are steps resetting waste ink counter of this printer:
  • With the machine power off, while pressing STOP/RESET button, press and hold the ON/OFF button. (Do not release the buttons).
  • While holding ON/OFF button, release the STOP/RESET button. (Do not release the ON/OFF button).
  • While holding the ON/OFF button, press the STOP/RESET 2 times and then release all buttons. (Each time STOP/RESET is pressed, the alarm LED and COPY lights alternately starting with alarm LED).
  • When the COPY button lights in green, press STOP/RESET button 4 times. (Each time STOP/RESET is pressed, the alarm LED and COPY lights alternately starting with alarm LED).
  • Turn off the printer.
Your printer should work normally now.
Regards,
