Same problem. When turning unit on the scanner starts up and then goes backwards and then the unit starts making lots of noises. Then it shows scanner failure on the lcd screen.

    "chug chug chug chug"

The best I've got out of this is by plugging it into a strip plug, and flipping the switch off, then back on again after about a half hour. The strip plug built into my computer desk has individual switches for each device plugged into it, which makes things easy (even though I only plug in the printer to this outlet).

Strangely enough, after being off for a few days and turning it back on I'll get the problem again! And this fix doesn't always work, but at the very least the strip plug is easier than pulling the cable out every time :(

How do I solve the "scanner failure power off and on again" message for an h.p. 6110 officjet all-in-one printer/scanner/fax?

Hi Paul,

Scanner Failure usually results in Hardware Failure. However there is one step you can try. Try connecting the printer directly to wall outlet or any other power outlet and the issue should be resolved.

Regards,
Sean

HP office jet 6110 all-in-one Scanner Failure message cannot be erased. When power is switched off/on makes load grating noise and Scanner Failure message reappears. Copier function will not work either.

Print head sticking needs oil on shaft that its slides on. Open cover and put a drop of oil on each side print head Shaft cut it back on and see if this helps .may half to do this 2 or 3 times to get the oil on to bearings . They dry out over time. Good luck

HP office jet 7310 all in one. when trying to fax it says scanner failure. Turn off power and restart. This accomplishes nothing. Suggestions?

This means that there is an internal failure of some kind (e.g. the scanner is stuck). Be sure that the shipping lock has been removed and try again. HP is very good about support, try contacting them through their website or by phone.

Good Luck!

My Office Jet 7310xi scanner failure

Does it scan from either the doc feeder or from the flatbed itself?
Can you COPY a page?

Are you using the buttons on the printer, or do you work from HP director?

I keep getting a scanner failure error

Let's try this. Turn power off, unplug the cord from the surge strip or wall socket. Leave unplugged for about 30 minutes, then plug back in and turn on. Hopefully this will fix your problem. Good luck.

Hp office jet 6110 all in one

THE Office Jet 6110xi has the problem is the scanner carriage having a problem when it looses power. The carriage does not "see" the signal it needs to indicate to the scanner carriage has reached the end of the scan deck -- I open the scanner top (remove screws, lift ONLY several inches leaving the front "clips" or "clamps" connected so the rear part of the top deck lifts up).

I have wiped the glass and the scanner carriage.

THE BEST THING THAT SEEMS TO WORK IS TO MAKE SURE THE THIN PLASTIC INSERT BETWEEN THE GLASS AND THE PLASTIC DECK --- WHICH IS NOT SEEM FROM THE TOP SCANNING DECK BUT ONLY FROM THE UNDERSIDE WHILE HOLDING UP THE DECK --- IS PROPERLY SEATED SO THE SCANNER CARRIAGE "SEES" IT.

ALSO HAVING WORKED IS SOME COMPRESSED AIR BLOWING IN THE SCANNER CARRIAGE AREA. I PRESUME SO DUST GETS IN THERE AND THE AIR REMOVES IT.

This happens almost every time the scanner/printer looses power, so I usually try to avoid unplugging it or shutting it off!!!

Finally, do not give up. This can be fixed. Sometimes it took 2 minutes, sometimes it took an hour of cleaning, wiping, blowing air into it.....
