Keeps saying it is in use when it is not while trying to remove Also it keeps showing drive G even though I dont want it or to take up more space on the drive. To be honest, It is a complete pain

Thats fairly typical behaviour for the ScanDisk USB Drives.
Don't worry too much about it being busy, it could be AV, a corrupt file on the USB or any other number of issues.
The G Drive is a piece of software that the ScanDisk is trying to run to install software, again, don't worry too much about it.
You can delete the partition and reformat the USB key. That should remove the mounting software, but make sure that you have copied off the data you want off the USB onto a PC or another USB key.

ScanDisk is a Windows utility which detects and corrects errors. Windows XP introduced a significant change to ScanDisk. The utility was integrated into the operating system. You should run ScanDisk whenever you notice a hard drive is not performing well and also on a regular basis to fix errors as soon as they happen.
jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); }); Difficulty: Easy Instructions

  1. 1 Open "My Computer" in Windows XP.
  2. 2 Find the icon for the hard drive you want to run ScanDisk on. You can run ScanDisk on the system's primary hard drive and also on any secondary hard drives or external hard drives. Right-click on the icon for the hard drive and select "Properties."
  3. 3 Choose the "Tools" tab from the hard drive properties window. The ScanDisk utility can be activated from the Error-checking box at the top of the Tools tab. To begin, click the "Check Now" button.
  4. 4 Note the two check boxes displayed. You will want to choose the "Automatically Fix File System Errors" box. This will perform a basic fast scan of the drive, which will take only a few minutes.
  5. 5 Put a check in the "Scan for and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" box for a more thorough scan. With this checked, Windows XP will take 10 hours or longer to run ScanDisk depending on the size of your hard drive. Run this if you have noticed a problem with the hard drive's performance. For regular checks, run the basic check most of the time and the longer check only occasionally.
  6. 6 Hit the "Start" button to start ScanDisk.
  7. 7 Wait for Windows XP to finish running ScanDisk and view the report. ScanDisk will tell you what errors it found and fixed. Click the "Close" button when are finished viewing the report.

How to run scan disk

if you are using Windows OS, open the Computer or My Computer icon, then right-click the drive where you want to run scan disk and click Properties. Click the Tools tab, then click Check Now under Error Checking. You can then select the option to automatically recover bad sectors and repair errors before the actual process is started.

Verbatim 8G USB memory storage stick not working

There could errors in the drive. You should either run a scandisk on it or format it altogether. Either should get it back up and running is it is a genuine device.

1. To check for errors/scandisk right click on the icon of the memory stick, select properties. Under the properties menu look for Error-checking and select check now. The check disk menu pops up. See that Automatically fix file system error box is checked. Then click on start.

2. If you decide to format the memory stick just right click on its icon and select format. But see that you move you vital files from it first else you will loose them.

1. how do i do a scan disk and defragmenter on vista? 2. how do i add to the tool bar, double space, print, etc.

Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then Disk Defrag.

You can also right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and click explore. This opens a divided folder. In the right hand column either right click the C: drive and choose Properties or depending on your settings I can single click that same icon and a Properties Icon will slide into view at the very top of the window near the Tabs area. When the Local Disk C: Properties window appears you can click the Tools tab which let's you pick either Disk Defrag or Scandisk. This is better since you can acces both of these utilities and the Backup utility from the same tab also. Scandisk will also run for about 5 seconds then tell you it cannot operate now but will allow you to schedule it for the next startup.
