Question about Epson PowerLite 8100i Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Light Engine I am being told that the "light engine" needs either repair or replacement. My machine is projecting the typical blue epson screen, but it is intelaced with red lines. Is there anything that can be done to repair this? If so, can I repair it or must a professional take care of it?

Has blue dots on screen and heavy blue tint when watching tv or dvds

burn spots on the light filter on the blue lcd panel due to excessive dust and heat. blow out any dust with canned air. as for repairing it, you may have to replace the entire optical engine, as they don't sell individual parts.

I replaced lamp, however, I have blue halo on on the projection screen. Is the new lamp bad??

the light filter on one of the lcd panels is fried due to excessive dust and heat. it'll need to be replaced, but only a sharp service center can buy the individual part and replace it. otherwise you'll have to replace the entire optical engine. try av solutions in ny. they're really good.

I have two different digital projectors that have been used for a long time. Now, even with new bulbs, we are noticing areas of mysterious blue beginning to show up unevenly across our image screens....

if they are lcd projectors (as opposed to dlp), the blue light filter (polarizer) is starting to fry due to excessive heat and dust. clean the projectors out thoroughly with canned air and see if it helps. if it does not, you will need to have the blue light filter replaced. unfortunately, most projector companies don't replace individual parts of the optical engine, but the whole engine itself.

I have a hitachi media projector and a blue patch is growing on the screen. i have read that this is caused by the prism. do i have to send the projector in to be repaired or can i buy a prism somewhere...

it's not the prism, it's the light filter on the blue lcd panel. it's starting to fry due to dust and heat. it does need to be replaced, but most companies won't just replace a part in the optical engine, so you'll have to replace the whole optical engine. and it's pricey. but find a hitachi service center (on their website) and ask them.

Focus problams

if the power focus is not moving, the motor might be siezed and need repair or replacement. also make sure that the resolution matches the source. the projector is designed to have a minimum throw distance of 7.8 feet. if your screen is closer than that, it won't focus. if the motor works, the resolution matches, and the distance is ok, then you need to clean out the dust from the projector with canned air. if that doesn't help, you have an optical engine issue caused by excessive heat. either the light filters or the fly-eye lens are burnt and need replacing.

Images has a blue color across the center

Wow, 3 in a row. As described on 2 other projector issues this is very similar to those others. I'll repeat the info here.

I assume this is an LCD. I don't remember the s4 being a DLP projector.

This sounds like the LCD panel used for the blue color has gone out. The image is made up of red, green and blue images layered upon the screen. If the blue panel has gone out then there is nothing filtering out the red light in the image.

It looks like yours has just a secone of the panel dying or comming loose from it's connector.

It could be a simple open and reconnect fix. I personally have never opened a projector, so I'm not going to walk you through it as I do not know how hard it would be to tinker with. It should eb a cheap fix for a true repair man though.

Big blue dot

This is going to hurt..
You probably have a polarizer failing on one of the LCD panels inside.
There are 3 of these in LCD projectors, red, green, and blue. They all get the light fed into them, that light is then combined and fed through the projection lens.

You will need to contact Sanyo to find a service centre to replace it.

Epson EMP-74 - Blinking Red Light

Hi Sootycat

Ok , most of the time this would be the Fan.Powerboard that is faulty then and unfortunatelly it would be better to replace the part rather than having it repaired.

Repaired Powerboards normally give the same problem a couple of months down the line.
