Pull the freezer out from wall and take the cardboard back off. This should expose your compressor. The defrost timer should be there too. Turn the dial on the defrost timer until the freezer starts. If it starts and runs and cools you need to replace the timer. also check to see if the compressor or the evaporator coils are hot in the back.(under freezer) there is also a relay/starter switch on the side of the compressor that goes out. you can check this by taking it off and shaking it. If it rattles its bad.

Hi,

Initially, on your Whirlpool AFG8060 Upright Freezer concern, the blank control screen is significant; it means that the control board is faulty. In some instances, this could be a simple case of internal loose connection or corroded terminals and connectors. In some others this would require for the replacement of the control board. In your particular model, this would be the one on top and unfortunately, it is an entire assembly. I believe the P/N is 854980615002. Since this would call for specialized diagnosis, repair procedure and as stated earlier replacement, might it be to your advantage to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Should you wish to pursue a DIY (do-it-yourself), this of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Check for the thermostat settings first, if it is fine then u can definately blame the  evaporater fan.try to repair the fan or replace it to solve the problem.

Can you please clarify exactly what is happening. The power will be on when in defrost. The fan should be off and the compressor should be off. What is still on and what is off?

To diagnose your problem we need more info. What you are saying is not enough. What is not working? The evaporator fan? Just the fact that it went into defrost suddenly, is not a symtom of a problem. Is it frosted up badly inside the freezer? Did it start cooling again? Did it stay in defrost and not start cooling? Is the problem with the internal temp reading being blank and that is not normal? Is your problem the fast freeze light is on and that isn`t normal? Each symtom is an indication of a deferent problem and a deferent way to fix it. If it did not start cooling again then we can start to trace your problem down but we need as much info as possible and we will diagnose your problem and inform you of what needs to be done to fix your freezer..

You probably have bad electronic cold control. Unless you are comfortable with electronics then you need a technician to check and probably replace it. You can contact a service man right from this site for your area. I hope I have been helpfull. If you have any more quistions, I will help you all that I can.

Is the rest of the fridge cool, or was it just the freezer compartment? Also, could you tell me what is the model? Check the freezer door. If it does not close properly, it could cause this issue by preventing the evaporator fans from running, causing the freezer to get warm..

If the rest of the fridge is cool except the freezer, check the
evaporator fan if it is running, check the air duct and check

    All
freezers need to be defrosted from time to time, some freezer like yours can do this automatically when an eccessive amount of ice, or an excessive load on the defrost system is detected.
Leave the freezer unplugged overnight, to allow defrosting completely.

If it ahappens again in few days, then it is a faulty control, or a faulty thermistor. If it does not, then it was the auto defrost.

Why as food suddenly started to defrost in freezer

If the fan is running in the freezer and there is some cooling, the evaporator (cooling coil) is probably iced up due to failed defrost timer or heater.

My 2-door 9cu.ft. refrigerator suddenly stopped cooling in the non-freezer part. checked the temperature setting and the electrical supply and they're just fine. freezer's working fine too.

Hi.

The problem can be a defective defrost system. The defrost system comprises defrost thermostat, heater, defrost control and fan. The parts that fail more commonly are thermostat and heater. Both parts are located behind freezer firewall and tested reading impedance with a multimeter.

A test on the defrost system can be done by performing a complete defrost manually (remove food and leave power disconnected overnight). If the fridge restarts working after defrost, then problem was the defrost system. In that case the problem may return after few days or weeks, meaning that one part in the defrost system is faulty.Parts must be tested.

If the defrost makes no change, then there is a different problem. The damper ventilation system , the temperature control or the refrigerant gas pressure may be the problem. When the problem is one of these faults you get the compressor is running regularly, but will stay on most of the time.

If the motor is humming and clicking most of the time, but not properly starting, then the problem is usually the starter relay/capacitor. Relay and capacitors can be replaced to fix the problem.

Regards.

I have a GE GTS 221C fridge/freezer. The fridge is working fine. All of a sudden, the freezer is not freezing. Just cold, but not enough to keep food frozen. The fan on the freezer is working.

remove the rear cover inside the freezer if it has a lot of frost on it,then the evaporator coil is frozen up and you cant blow cold air over or thru a solid block of ice, defrost it,then check the defrost heating element, defrost thermostat and timer or defrost circuitry for no power or defective components, you can use a hand held hair dryer to defrost it quicker

Freezer suddenly is creating mounds of freezer "fluff"

That snow is the condensate build up on the evaporator coils behind the rear panel of your freezer. Normally the freezer will go into defrost about every 10 hours and this snow will melt and drain out the defrost condensate line below the evaporator and go to a pan under your refrigerator and return back to the air inside your home. I believe your freezer is missing the defrost cycle either because the controls for the defrost are defective or the defrost heater and defrost thermostat is defective. I would be watching for an increase in refrigerator temperatures soon, due to loss of defrost. We will need to unplug and examine the evaporator coils behind the rear wall of the freezer. If frozen or covered with snow then defrost with a hair dryer and lets check the defrost heater and all its related components. Sea Breeze

Suddenly there is frost covering everything! What

It may not be sealing properly. check to see if a dollar bill will easly slide between the seal and the door. move the food ( and ice) away from the door then test with the dollar again. If it is not sealing clean with soap and watr using a dish brush. test again after drying. The last is to put a small amount of silicone greaseon the seal. The plumbing section section of the hardware store carries plumbers grease.

GE Arctica Refrigerator suddenly stopped cooling. Motors are running, controls are responding, but interior of freezer and refirgerator section is not cooling down.

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Sounds like you have a defrost problem... is there a large build up if frost in the freezer section on the back wall??

Refrigirator not working

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.
