Re: Red-Orange Screen

If the screen flashed when the TV made a popping sound, then I would suspect an intermittent heater to cathode short in the picture tube. When this happens, it usually takes out one to three output IC packs located on the CRT drive board. Even if you replaced the defective output packs which are soldered in and attached to metal heat sinks to restore the picture, the CRT could short again and redo the damage. For a 20 inch screen it is probably not worth repairing.

My Tv started with flashing red/orange colors. Then later the screen turned red/orange and the TV shut off. When I attempt to turn it on again, the screen stayes red for a few minutes then shuts off.

The problem based on the model number is in or around the red picture tube---the bright red screen causes the set to draw too much current and the shutdown circuit detects this and turns set off--self protection.

Each picture tube (3) has a IC chip on the board connected to it--shorted chip or bad picture tube.

Shop repair in most cases.

Sony Trinitron KV-ES34M90 turns on OK but goes off after about 5 mins. Timer is off. The screen goes orange before it turns off and the red light flashes x2 at intervals. Could you please help me with...

The two blink code means the set is turning off because of over-current protection. This, along with your saying that the screen turns orange before the set shuts off, leads me to think your picture tube is bad. What's probably happening is that as the tube heats up (there's a filament like that in a light bulb in the neck of a conventional picture tube) one of the metal elements moves and touches something it shouldn't. This then lets high voltage from the tube get to places it shouldn't and the protection circuit kicks in.

There's no fix for this other than to replace the picture tube. It would be far less expensive to buy a new LCD or plasma TV than to buy a replacement Sony tube. And the replacement tube then needs convergence to get the red, green and blue color beams properly aligned and adjustments to get them balanced. Work done in the field seldom looks as good as the factory job, and it can be disappointing. The LCD or plasma sets don't have these issues.

Now might be a good time to start checking sale prices.

JVC AV-F29MX3 I was watching a film on my DVD connected to the TV, when suddenly the screen turns black with no sound heard. Also the front light indicating 'ON TIMER' and 'ECO' started blinking in red...

usually after 4 or 5 yrs EHT ( transformer that supplies voltage to tube ) becomes weak - then TV won't get ON.. means no picture no sound ..but LED blinks - in some TVs along with EHT 1 or 2 components like resistor, transistors, etc will also gets deffective .................. so solution is TV circuit board has to be checked to find whether only EHT is deffective or other components are also deffective.......... price of EHT will be between Rs.250 (US$ 5) to Rs.600 ( US$ 12) ........iam from bangalore ( 09986222774, ) .....i don't have any idea about EHT component's price & service charge in your area........this problem cannot be solved by user unless user is a technical person having idea about components (resistors, transistors,diodes,...etc..), having multimeter , soldering iron & other my suggestion call TV service engineer or contact jvc service centre.........

I have a 60 inch older big screen. I turned it on and the entire screen is orange

Your TV has no blue colour emisson. Red+Green = Yellow, Orange and so on. There is so many causes are there for this fault. As you say that your TV is an old one, it may be a transistorsed circuit board inside. Sometimes 2 or 3 Ics also will be there. You haven't given its model number to us. Without that we can't refer to your complaint with schematic diagram. You just give Fixya, its model number and other details and repost your complaint.

Sony wega trinitron won't turn on

  • Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505
  • Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
