Lowrance LCX-19C won't power up.........Lowrance says no repair!

Although my LCX19C is 4 years old, it has never been used. I was waiting for the old unit to die. Finally installed it recently and it immediately blew the in-line fuse. Replaced the fuse, but unit is dead.
Got RMA from Lowrance and sent it in for repair. They sent it back unrepaired with an offer to discount purchase of a new unit. Said they can't get the parts to fix these units.

Do you offer a repair service for this unit?
Is there anything I should try to verify that its really dead?

Thanks for any help.

Same problem! Unit would not power up. Offered the same discount letter. I won't purchase a Lowrance again! The unit was well cared for. I followed all the trouble shooting steps - 12.68 volts coming out of the power cord. The Lowrance service center would not even look at the unit.

It sounds like you may have to send it out for service, but before you you do there are a few things you can try.

Low voltage can cause erratic behavior. Since you already wired directly to the battery, check the plug for corrosion.

Try unplugging the transducer cable to see if the display still behaves erratically. You wont see depth readings but you should still see the screen going black. If no erratic behavior with transducer unplugged then problem is in the transducer cable or the plug. A common source of failure is at the plug because the added stress of plugging and unplugging cables can cause the socket to twist slightly which can cause a short.

Make sure you have the latest software update.

How to see if your LCX-19C is already using version 1.8.0 software:

  1. Press the MENU button twice on your LCX-19C.
  2. Select SYSTEM SETUP.
  3. Select SOFTWARE INFORMATION.
  4. The software version for your unit is located under the line that says "LCX-19C" (ex. "Version 1.8.0").
  5. If your version is the same version listed above, there is no need to download the software.
If it is lower than 1.8.0 you can download the update from this link: LCX-19C UPDATE
Copy it onto a blank MMC card and install it in your GPS. The GPS should prompt you on how to install the update.

I have the same problem on my unit and was told the same after I stayed on hold 38 minutes for tech support at lowrance. This is the second Lowrance that they would not fix and only offer a "discount" on a replacement. This company can KISS my behind. What a scam!!!

SOURCE: When turning on the Lowrance

here is the link to your the lowrance web site. the trouble shooting guide says that if you tried to it on another boat than you might need to take it in for service. but there is a section that explains how to do a soft reset on the unit. you might try that.

Lowrance LCX power up problem

On Lowrance LCX-19 and I would assume other LCX series units.
The T3 Transformer shorts out and when the sonar kicks in it causes the unit to go over current and will eather cause the unit to reset and start again or blow the fuse. If you have the ability you can re-wind the transformer.

The primary is 46 turns of 24awg inverter duty magnet wire,
The secondary is 164 turns of 26awg inverter duty magnet wire.

Be sure to keep the same winding direction as what you take off as it may be phase sensitive. Be sure to use mylar tape between the primary and secondary windings.

Just a note this board has very heavy power planes and is very hard to solder/de-solder on.

Transducer is mounted on a plastic bracket to trolling motor. when trolling motor is turned on, black vertical lines appear on my screen. lowrance x107 cdf

Are you utilizing another unit in your dash? If so, sometimes when both units are on and in sonar mode, their frequencies will intefere with each other causing the vertical lines. I would suggest turning your dash unit off or lowering it's Hertz rate from 200Hz down to 50Hz.

Funny story...I saw this same issue on my boat years ago. I had an X102C up fron and an LCX-19c in the dash. I acutally thought it was some sort of man-made structure and spent time fishing it...DOH!

Waypoint altitude

When asked for the altitude, enter it as 1.

Setting a waypoint, I do not have the altitude and the lowrance will not enter the latitude and longitude, what do I do?

Assume an altitude of zero. It will have little effect on your accuracy even if you are above (or below) sea level. When you are near the waypoint the GPS will tell you the altitude and you can edit the waypoint then.

Powerin up - screen goes blank after a few swconds -

had same problem. the cause was corrosion in the boat wiring. the power wire was corroded 95%thru. there was enough voltage to start the unit but when the sounder kicks in the voltage dropped below minimum and the unit shut off. took a LOOOONG time to find.
