The machine may need to be checked at a sewing machine shop to find out why the reverse is not working.

SOURCE: reverse sewing button stuck HELP!!

MOdel 6430 has the stitch length and buttonhole selector on the same knob. It is the one on the bottom right side of the machine. I believe you may have selected the buttonhole by pulling out on the large round knob. You need to turn the knob back to 0 zero and push in. This should return the machine to normal mode.Adjust your stitch length to 3 and try it. The reverse knob in the center should also stick out so that it becomes operational again.

SOURCE: The Reverse stitch button

The feed mechanism needs to be oiled. Take off the bottom cover and look for any place where two parts move against each other. Some binds can be very difficult to remove. Try spraying everything with a light weight oil (I like Tri-Flow) and let them soak over night. Then manually try to move the feed dogs with your hand. Hopefully it will break loose.
Good luck!

SOURCE: model 385.15718500..machine only goes in reverse

Sounds like the reverse mechanism has jammed...either with lint or lack of use and oil/lint has frozen the mechanism.
Unplug the machine and remove the base. Clean all the lint with small brush and vacuum.
Try the reverse lever to see where the connecting rods are and identify the collar around the bottom shaft....try to move manually, use a little lubricant where the collar moves on the shaft.
In extreme cases it may take several applications over several days to rectify this, but as this is only 3 years old, should respond quickly

SOURCE: bought my Sears Kenmore model 1400 in 1971. it

It's not that hard to service it your self. Pop open the top with a screwdriver, clean dust and lint out with a cotton swap moistened with sewing machine oil. Turn the handwheel to see where parts move against each other and put a drop at each spot. Do the same thing underneath your machine. Your camstack might be sticking from no oil ever. Turn your pattern knob and see if each time parts connected to it are moving well. That lever might need oil too. I don't know how to fix a bobbin winder though. You could check the files at the Yahoo groups called VintageKenmore or OldKenmores (not the exact spelling but you can search on Kenmore).

I have an Elna Elnita air electronic and cannot figure out how to backstitch. I have always owned Elna Su air electronics but this little machine I can't figure out the backstitch

The Elnita is the entry level model in the Air Electronic compact series, there is no reverse lever or button. Instead, you stop stitching, turn the stitch length dial back to zero, then keep turning into "negative" area, it should look like this "-- --- ---- -----" on the dial. Turn it back about half way into the negative area and you will get a reverse stitch of about 2.5 or so. Do your reversing stitches, then stop and turn the dial back to original forwards stitch location, and continue sewing.

How to change stitch length on j c penny kenmore model 6945

Kenmore is a "Sears" brand.

Try your search on the Sears/Kenmore parts area. Or call the kenmore hotline. (usually the stitch length is marked from 0-6 or so.) Depending on the year of the machine... it could be near the reverse button.

I just got an old Sears Kenmore Sewing machine model 385.17781. Everything is working fine except the reverse stitch. When the reverse button is pressed, the fabric doesn't move or sometimes movin

it sounds like the feed dogs & the reverse button need to be
checked at a repair shop,
to see why they are not responding to each other.

I have an old sewing machine in my attic, i just recently put it to use. but i cant seem to find the reverse stitch button. im only 14, it was my moms sewing machine. but shes no longer with us, so im...

I've got a Kenmore sewing machine and the back stitch is a button/lever on the front of the machine. It has to be held down when you want to back stitch, because when you let it go it stitches forward again. Hopefully that helps, I'm not sure what yours looks like. ( I couldn't find pictures of your model online anywhere.) :)

Machine sews only in reverse

Be sure you are in the correct stitch pattern...if you are on a buttonhole stitch or a stretch stitch it normal for the machine to sew backwards. Be sure your length is to the right of 0 and not in a strtch stitch model or buttonhole mode.
