Question about Sony Grand WEGA KF60XBR800 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

We keep losing sound and picture on our TV

We have a rear project TV and it recently started doing something weird. The sound and picture turns off for about 30 seconds and then will come back on. The picture returns about 5 seconds before the sound returns. The TV will then only stay on for about 1 to 3 minutes before doing it again. The green power light is still on while this is happening.

Any ideas?

I wanted to add that the lamp indicator light is NOT on when this happens.

    Thanks! :)

My "Sony - Grand Wega" keeps turning blank yet it stays on flashing a red light

We have not replaced the lamp. We were thinking it wasn't the lamp since the sound goes off as well. It is a Sony Grand WEGA. Not sure on the model number.

my KF60XBR800 does the same cycling off/on thing. I just replaced the lamp with an aftermarket bulb on 9/27/08. The picture is good, but the cycling time seems to drop by a minute with each one; i.e. 14 mins, 13 mins, 12 mins.etc.

THE TV SHUTS OFF AND THE LIGHT BLINKS GREEN AND WILL COME BACK ON IN 2 MINUTES AND THEN STAYS ON FOR 30 SECONDS AND GOES BACK OUT AGAIN.

Can you tell me the brand and model of your TV? Also what do you have connected to the TV and does the problem happen on all inputs or just one?

If you haven't replaced the lamp, it is almost certainly time to change it. A weak lamp will cause the TV to play for a short time. As the old weak lamp heats up, it draws more current, and the reflector in the lamp, having become cloudy over time, converts the light into more heat rather than reflected it out into the set. Eventually the lamp draws too much current and the set turns it off, going into a restart cycle. Buy an original Sony lamp, as the aftermarket replacement lamps are known trouble makers. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

As far as the second user "Mitro", a flashing red light usually means something else is wrong. Can you tell me how many times the light is flashing and what the model number of your TV is?
