Thanks for choosing fixya.com

WIndows based apps will not run in linux without the use of an emulator. Even then most of the messenger apps do not work properly.

Your best bet is to use an alternative messenger that will allow you to still talk to all of your friends. In ubuntu if you goto the "Add new software" section and search for "instant messenger" you should be able to download several IM program that will work with yahoo, msn, icq, and all the rest.

Ubuntu also offers a few extensive community forum where a lot of these questions have already been answered for your convenience.

Hope this helps you, feel free to ask further if needed.

Download yahoo messenger package from its website then double click the package and install it the same way like in windows... But make sure you downlad the .deb package file. Ubuntu is a debain based linux and has gnome desktop environment. I can probably give you an insurance that this would work

If you wanted to sign in with your Yahoo Messenger in just a second you will need to improve its connection.

The easiest way for you to establish a good connection is to upgrade your Windows Internet Explorer. In case you didn't know Yahoo Messenger rely its connection from Internet Explorer.

The best suggestion to improve the connection of your Yahoo Messenger is to upgrade the Internet Explorer of your computer. Compatible to the system software you are currently using. (Example if your operating system is windows vista, Install Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista)
After you upgrade your Internet Explorer, uninstall the yahoo messenger on your computer and then reinstall again. After doing this, restart your computer and try to log in. You will surely see the difference.

These are the link files that you will need to upgrade.
Click it to save.
1. Internet Explorer8 (winXP, winXP-64, winVista, winVista-64) - select your operating system and download IE8
2. Yahoo Messenger 10 - download and install this after you remove previous version of yahoo messenger on your computer

(Note: if you are using different web browser, It doesn't matter. Install Internet Explorer 8 and just don't default it as your web browser)

How to install yahoo messenger in ubuntu linux 9.4

There is no official release of Yahoo Messenger for Linux anymore. However, you can chat with your friends who use Yahoo Messenger by using a Linux chat client such as Empathy or Pidgin, both of which are available in the Ubuntu software center.

Install yahoo masenger for linuk ubuntu

download pidgin

Yahoo Instant Messenger isn't directly available on Linux. However there are several alternatives.
You can use free Pidgin software on Linux. In addition to supporting Yahoo Messenger, it supports AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, MSN IM, Bonjour, Gadu Gadu, GroupWise, IRC, QQ, SILC, SIMPLE, Sametime, Zephyr and all XMPP protocol compliant instant messengers. It was previously known as GAIM. I use it and I strongly recommend it.
An online alternative to Pidgin is Meebo. I prefer Pidgin because I don't have to keep my browser open all the time.
Note: Don't take this post to mean that I am recommending Yahoo Messenger for your IM needs as there are some teething problems with Yahoo Messenger.
