Timer only works on Timed Dry Setting

I Have a GE Model DBSR453EB3WW Electric Dryer. The problem I have is that the Timer only works on the Timed Dry function. It does not move/work on the two Automatic settings although it does heat etc. Any ideas? Thanks, this site is very helpful

Check your heating element. If one coil of the heating element is burnt out the dryer will heat on the remaining coil, but the timer will not advance in automatic dry.

Ya, I think the restring kit for your model is a WE11X10007. Get one from a local repair shop, as GE charges high retails and shipping and handling. I'd have to check that number for sure when I get back to my shop, hopefully tomorrow. Restring kit should save you big $ over the entire assembly.

Timer counts down but doesnt shut off

same problem with Kenmore dryer Model No. 110.96250100. The timer would not advance under any setting. I replaced the timer and it only advances under timed dry but does not shut off when it times out. Under all other settings, the timer knob does not move, but the temperature stays warm. I checked the continuity on thermostats and resistor and, to the best of my knowledge, all passed. all in all, it appears to be a mechanical problem with your timer.

The drum on my dryer will turn when I set the timer to any setting, but the timer does not work, nor does it heat up. Any suggestions?

See if the timer advances in the timed dry or the auto dry cycles. If the timer advances in timed dry but not in auto dry, then you could have a wire connection failure in the orange wire from the heating element to the timer.

If the timer will not advance in either type of cycle, then I recommend checking the timer part number that you are using.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

check out this electric no heat tip...

Hotpointdryer timer problem

There are two coils in the heating element, and if one burns out, the timer will not advance in automatic dry. The timer should still advance when using manual (or timed) dry.
