Question about Reddy Heater-170,000 BTU Kerosene Deluxe

Reddy Heater will not ignite flame

Have an older Reddy Heater Pro 110. Some years ago it was being used and ran out of K1 fuel while being used. If you plug it into the outlet (with a full tank of K1) only the fan works. Looking for suggestions about fixing the heater. I did take apart the heater and the only thing that I can see could be wrong is a black "box" under the fan (ignitor starter circuit) or somewhere there is a fuse or maybe a pump failure ? Has anyone had this problem ? Thanks.

I have a pro 150 That has a spark Plug ( FI2150) and was working fine, I turned it off then went to turn back on and it runs but will not fire, I checked the spark plug wire with a spark plug wire tester and it has power and checked the fuel pressure @ 5lbs, but still cannot get it to start.

    Any Suggestions

Please answer the following questions. There are several folks on the board that can help but we need to know some vital information so we can get started. Answer these, if you can:

  1. Which Pro 110 do you have. We need the exact model number. Pro 110 is a series of heaters.
  2. Does the heater have a spark plug or a glowbar (HSI)?
  3. When the motor runs is it pumping fuel?
  4. When the motor runs is the spark plug firing (or glowbar glowing)?

I'm having the same issue. I have a 110 pro, 110,000 BTU. It has a spark plug. When I turn it on the fan comes on and it blows kero out the front but won't light. I pulled spark plug wire off and checked to make sure I have juice and I do. It has always worked before.

I had the same problem with my r-110, it had always run good until recently. i would plug it in, and it would run about 10 sec. without igniting and shut off. here's what corrected my problem. pulled the spark plug ( an elongated spark plug) and checked the gap. it was about half of the recommended .070 gap. i hope this helps. craig

My heater is a reddy heater 165,000btu. when i plug it up it will ignite, it will get a flame for about ten seconds and it shutdown. i recently replaced the ignitor because it broke and replace the fuel...

I would definitely stop burning off road diesel as it is dirty.Remove the top section of the heater and clean the fire eye with windex and a terry cloth rag, and run K1 kerosene it burns so much cleaner. Also make sure that fuel is not an issuecheck fuel filter, fuel lines and don't forget the screen in behind the nozzle.

150,000 BTU propane Reddy Heater shuts off after ignition

Is there a frost line on your LP tank, if so you may need to replace the tank with a larger tank or refill your tank. This can happen if the tank your using is too low or too small (use 100 lb tank or greater). If there is no frost line it may be an issue with the thermocouple. The manufacturer offers a service manual and owner's manuals on there site. This should assist you... www.desatech.com Thank you

Pro 110, runs 10 min., blows white smoke ,shuts off

the first thing you need to do is go back to useing K1 kerosene, diesel fuel not only burns dirty but also has a tendency to gel up in cold weather which could be makeing it hard for the heater to draw the proper amount of fuel. To reset the pressure you will need a gage, it should run at about 6-7 psi. you can order a pressure gage from mr. heater online, they are by far the cheapest I have found as they are the actual manufacturer or call 1-800-251-0001

Built in thermostat and fuels

diesel fuel requirs a hotter spark for ignition and burns pretty dirty, better off with K1 kerosene. You could change the ignition system to a mutifuel but it's not cheap and may not mount to your current houseing but would still work. As for restarting it is one of two things: the hight heat limit control or most likely teh CAD flame sensor, both of which you can get from Mr. Heater for less than 3 bucks each. the mount for the limit control is different but you can simply remount it to your heater mount. Same thing with the flme sensor, the wires are different but you can splice the to your wire harness and it will be fine. there is no wrong way to hook them up so don't worry about ground or hot.

The heater ran out of fuel, when i turned it back on it popped.

it would probably be your igniter. it is probably not producing a spark

Igniter lites up fan kicks on and within 5 sec shuts off

Dustin, The ignitor only glows for 5 seconds, just long enough to ignite the fuel. The heater is shutting down because the photocell does not see the correct flame color.
Since you say "comes on for 5 seconds", I can only assume that there is a flame. You do not specify a lack of flame. I am also assuming that you have had the heater running this heater season and the problem just started.

YOU must find out if the problem is fuel delivery related or electronics related. Start by checking the pump pressure.

Does your heater use the older spark plug technology or the newer Hot Surface Ignitor (HSI) technology?

Without this critical information about all this technician can do is guess.

My best guess at this time would be either water in the fuel or a restricted fuel filter.
