All of a sudden scanner, copier and fax stopped working.

Tried reinstalling but it didn't work. Continuous message "Aligning cartridges, please wait." I can still print from the computer.

A window comes up in my PC showing "Scanner Failure", "Cycle power and try scanning again." I'm not even trying to scan, only to copy. The printer (HP Officejet J5750) displays message "Scanner Failure, unable to scan, copy, or send a fax. Press OK." When I press OK it starts realigning print cartridges and I get the same scan failure message.

  • sandaliog1 Nov 15, 2008

Didn't work, got the same scanner failure message again.

  • sandaliog1 Nov 15, 2008

Printer Test Page came out OK, but the message in the printer is still "Aligning cartidges, please wait."

  • sandaliog1 Nov 15, 2008

    There is no code.

  • sandaliog1 Nov 15, 2008

I checked that page, cartridges are OK.

  • sandaliog1 Nov 15, 2008

    Nope, none of that worked.

  • sandaliog1 Nov 15, 2008

Thanks. I'll get a new one, not worth the hassle.

When these products are prepared for shipment to the vendor for the end user to purchase there are implements place in the works of the multipurpose printer to keep moving parts from slapping around. This runs from a movable tab to lock the scanner arm, to pieces of cardboard placed so the printer carriage doesn't move in shipment.

What your situation sounds like it that the scanner arm is still locked in shipping mode. There has to be a slide locking tab, not just a piece of cardboard that has two positions marked on the unit. One position for shipping and moving and one for use.

This sounds like the case in your situation. I would either read the large blowup instructions, or the users manual for a guideline on where to find this should you not be able to spot it on your own.

Good luck, and good hunting. I'm here to follow up on any questions before you refuse and move on to the next.

Hi,

Initially, pls try a soft reset by pressing and holding # & 6 buttons while plugging in the unit to the outlet and try again. Should this be not corrective, then it is a hardware fault in the scanner engine. You may have to weight your options and consider repair cost plus downtime versus replacement.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Try printing a test page which will automatically align the cartridges by going to control panel, clicking on printers and faxes, finding your printer in the list, right clicking on it and going to properties, and at the bottom of that page, it will say print test page.

Try unplugging it overnight to let it reset and see if that makes any difference. If not, make sure those are the right cartridges for the printer or else the printer will keep saying that it is trying to align. The cartridges you have now may not be recognized by the printer and that is why it is saying that message.

    The message
'Scanner failure, Power off and on'
displays on the control panel of the product. This error can occur when
you try to scan or make copies, or when the product is warming up after
    you turn it on.
Try the solutions in this document. It is not necessary to continue to the next solution, if one solution resolves the issue.

Solution one: Check the scanner light

Make a color copy of any document by pressing the
    Start Copy Color
button on the product control panel. While the product is making the
copy, lift the scanner lid slightly to see if the scanner light is
    visible.

    • If the scanner mechanism moves across the scan bed, but the light is not lit, proceed to
      Solution six: Service the product

      .

    • If the light is lit, proceed to the next solution.

    Solution two: Check operating conditions

Extreme temperatures can affect the operation of the product. Make sure the operating conditions match those recommended in the
    User Guide
    provided with the product.

Solution three: Check the power connections

    1. Make sure that the part number on the power supply matches the part number listed in the
      User Guide
      .

    2. Disconnect the power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors, and then plug it directly into a wall outlet.

    3. Try making a color copy by pressing the
      Start Copy Color
button on the product control panel.

      • If the copy job is successful, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

    4. If
the error message displays again, temporarily move the product to a
different room, or plug the power cord into a different wall outlet.

    5. Try making a color copy by pressing the
      Start Copy Color
button on the product control panel.

      • If the copy job is successful, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

      • If the error message displays again, proceed to the next solution.

Solution four: Perform a power cycle

    1. Turn the product off.

    2. Unplug the power cord from the product.

    3. Wait 30 seconds, and then connect the power cord to the product.

    4. Turn the product on.

    5. Make a color copy by pressing the
      Start Copy Color
      button on the control panel.

    • If the copy job is successful, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

    • If the error message displays again, proceed to the next solution.

    Solution five: Reset the product
Follow these steps to reset the product.

Step one: Perform a partial reset

    1. Disconnect the power cord from the product.

    2. Press and hold
      #
      and
      3
while reconnecting the power cord to the product, and then release both buttons.

    3. Try making a color copy by pressing the
      Start Copy Color
button on the product control panel.

      • If the partial reset resolves the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

      • If the error message displays again, proceed to the next step to try a semi-full reset.

Step two: Perform a semi-full reset

    1. Disconnect the power cord from the product.

    2. Press and hold
      #
      and
      6
while reconnecting the power cord to the product, and then release both buttons.

    3. Try making a color copy by pressing the
      Start Copy Color
button on the product control panel.

Uninstall all the toner cartridges with the printer off, reinstall the cartridges and power up the printer, perform an aligning test through the printer software, and make sure that the printer heads and cartridge inserts are clean.Drivers have to be in working order as well.

Aligning cartridges, please wait

Pressed ok more than once to start alignment??
Have you worked through this page already? And you tried the "Bypassing the print cartridge alignment" solution? See HP's solution here. Make sure you don't have photo paper or colored paper in the input tray when aligning...
When you perform the reset, did you unplug the data cable (usb) as well as the power, and wait a few minutes? Try leaving both data and power cables unplugged for 1/2 hour and then resetting, and make sure you complete the power cycle by pressing start copy color. Link here.
If none of these steps work, try removing and reinstalling the cartridges, and if that doesn't help, here's a last ditch fix that may work in your case.
Otherwise, I'm afraid service is the answer...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

LEXMARK X5150 CARTRIDGE ERROR

Try this --
Cartridge Error 50C
Your print cartridge has shorted.

  1. Power off your All-in-One and unplug it.
  2. Plug in your All-in-One again and turn it on.
  3. Uninstall and then reinstall your cartridges.
  4. If this does not resolve the issue, try the troubleshooting steps for the other cartridge errors below.
Cartridge Error
Complete the following instructions:
  1. Power off your All-in-One.
  2. Use both hands to lift up the scanner unit until the scanner support holds it open.
  3. Turn the All-in-One on. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.
  4. Remove the color print cartridge.
  5. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
  6. If the error message reappears, replace the black print cartridge with a new print cartridge.
If it does not repeat steps 1-3 and then go to step 7.
  7. Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black print cartridge.
  8. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
  9. If the error message occurs again, replace the color cartridge.
  10. If an error message reappears, repeat steps 1-3 and reinstall both print cartridges.
  11. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
  12. If you receive the error message again, replace both cartridges
