Lexmark 5400 wont print

I have a lexmark 5400 series and my printer wont print and my scanner say's not connected to computer

    I have a lexmark 5400 when i try to print it keep saying the printer is bussy but its not.

-uninstall the software and reinstall it again and dont forget to put chek in the boxes of additional softwares., because those are the software for your scanner.

I have a Lexmark 5400 printer with a scanner combined. The printer works fine, but when it comes to scanning it tells me cannot retrieve application list, is there anything I can do to get it to working...


A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.


If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

1. Disconnect the printer from your computer.

2. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.

2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.

3. Delete the Lexmark print object.

4. Reboot your pc.

5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.

6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, then try to scan a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

I need to connect my phone line to my printer to enable me to send faxes, how do I do this.


Refer to the printer's User's Guide on how to connect your Lexmark X5470 to your telephone line for faxing. If the printer software is already installed on your computer, you can access the printer's User's Guide by going to the Start menu -> Programs -> Lexmark 5400 Series -> User's Guide (applicable to Windows OS). If not, you can download it from the Lexmark website for free using this link: Lexmark 5400 Series All-In-One User's Guide. Scroll to page 12 for the fax setup instructions. Also, check page 71for faxing instructions (sending, receiving, etc.). Hope this helps.

My Lexmark x5495 will not print. I get the message enable bidirectional communication. I am running XP operating system. What is the solution?


Go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > right click on the Lexmark 5400 Series print object > Properties > Lexmark 5400 Series Properties window pops up, click on Ports tab > place a check mark in Enable bidirectional support by clicking in the box beside it. Hit Apply and click Ok to save the settings. Try to print. If problem persists, disconnect the printer usb cable from computer, uninstall the software completely by clicking on Windows logo Start menu > All Programs > Lexmark 5400 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. Restart pc. To reinstalI, I recommend you use the software you can download from the Lexmark website. Just click on this link: http://bit.ly/cgn74X. Download and install the software. Lexmark Scanner - "cannot retrieve application list" Won't Scan - HELP please!


Microsoft Paint ----> 'File' ------> 'From scanner or camera' (when in scan mode on printer). Just tried this and it really works.

Lexmark 5400 series all-in-one fax printer scanner copier


This is not so much a solution, but I have a lexmark 5400 printer -and I am also having problems with "alignment." I just replaced the cartridges an now I am getting an error message saying: "Alignment problem, remove tape from cartridges, check paper and then press the check-mark button." There does not appear to be anything wrong with the cartridges (there shouldn't be - they're new), but the cartridges will not center when the cover is lifted. So I can no longer print anything, and I can't check the cartridges - help!
Any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to replace the printer, it's still in very good shape.

My printer is not printing Lexmark 5400 series


1. Please uninstall the printer driver software then restart the computer.

2. Reinstall the printer driver software

3. Most important try to do self test of the printer to check if the printer is ok.
