This could be from corrupted sound drivers. Try re-installing new sound drivers for your sound device. Be sure to install the correct sound drivers from your sound device manufacturer. This should fix the problem. If not, then there is problem with your hardware.

Sound as gone off the laptop

Not uncommon with HP laptops. Usual faults are network cards that suddenly die, graphics chips that unsolder themselves and (less common) the sound chip blowing.

I'm assuming you already checked if the sound has not been muted first?
You have up to date sound drivers

Test by connecting external speakers, if they work (and you have the sound unmuted), it is the internal speakers in the laptop that are at fault and will need investigation. If the externals do not work, then the sound chip is blown.

Apart from replacing the motherboard, you have the option of getting an external USB soundcard and running that to speakers. A bit clumsy, but you will get much better sound quality

Its important to set your webcam mic as default (the one you want to use) especially if you have a laptop with a built in mic as well

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders (adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

Sound Card/Speakers[?] URGENT

Outside of actually replacing the internal speakers, have you tried hooking up external speakers to the headphone or line out jack on the laptop? That will tell us if it is actually the speakers themselves or a fault somwhere else. If they do work, then you need to replace or check the speakers inside the laptop to make sure that the wires have not come loose.

Speakers do not go on.

try the speakers on another PC with working sound. This will tell if the speakers have gone bad or not. If they work on a second PC, the you have a sound card or Windows volume issue on your PC.
