Question about Dell Audio Cards

1 Answer

Inspiron 1521 SoundCard

I have an INSPIRON 1521 and I am suffering very much because this equipment is completely mute. Three weeks ago I was listening music with my headphones, then I disconnected them and it never sounded again.
Dell’s technician has checked my computer using remote assistance and he could not re-establish the sound. I think the problem is not Software or Drivers but it could be a problem with the sound card. I state this because I already have formatted my computer following Dell’s instructions but with no sound at all.

Press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on. This will run the Dell Diagnostics. Another more intense diagnostic program is located on a Dell CD that you should have received with your laptop. Look for one that has “Diagnostics and utilities” listed under the “Contents”. You will have to boot from that CD disk. To do this, power on your laptop and tap the <F12> key to bring you to the “One time boot menu”. Insert the CD and then select CD/DVD drive and hit <Enter> key. Select the “Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics”. Select “Custom Tests” and run the audio test. If it works using the diagnostics then your sound circuit is O.K. If it fails the test then your motherboard will have to be replaced. The sound circuit is integrated into the motherboard.

The sound has become very low and crackly, and when I add external speakers, I get crackling and/or a big squealing. It worked fine until 3 days ago model T61 7662 CTO

My first impression is that the reason for the crackling and the squealing on external spreakers is probably from the onboard mic. My first suggestion would be to go into the sound settings and mute the microphone and see if the problem still exists. If it has gone then I would clean the area where the mic is of just keep it muted and use an external one.

My Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop recently shutdown and would not reboot due to a Windows Vista error. After recovering my files, I decided to install Windows XP. Obvisouly, the product code is not compatabile...

You might find it difficult to get hold of windows XP keys since Microsoft stopped selling it.
If you get on google and search for something called TinyXP (rev09). I think that this willl solve your problem.

Phones 1-2 has both channels coming out of it

Had the same problem and fixed it today. It is the mute button. Whem you change from 1-2 to 3-4 if the mute button for 1-2 does not activate you will get the sound from 1-2 thru 3-4. Just change the setting and you are away. worked for me.

Sound driver

Sorry pal. Machine is a DELL Inspiron 1721. No cable neither loudspeakers. I have no motherboard CD shipped with laptop. I already tried to install audio drivers from DELL Utilities & Drivers CD, but OS refuses to recognize that a soundcard is present.

Thanks anyway. It has to be solved by someone who's had the same problem and managed to work around it.
